The largest trade war in economic history

What makes you not give a shit about the losses of one industry (US soybean agra) but flip your shit over the losses of another (US automobile manufacturers)?

I'm deeply concerned.

I'm just laughing at the confused lefties.
I thought "No Profit" was what they wanted...

This is all just a big misunderstanding.

Donald has misinterpreted the real meaning of Bully Pulpit.

Upside: Only 6 more years and he'll be gone.

Hold tight, regular folks; the ride's gonna get bumpy for you!

This right wing pissing contest all started over Canadian tariffs on US milk. An industry that can not make money on its own, so the US govt subsidizes. However....the Canadian dairy industry is profitable. Funny how that works.

Implementing tariffs and subsidizing are the two primary ways a govt can stabilize an industry to make it profitable for the producers. Why is one ok....whereas the other is not? Yes....i am setting the stupid up to demonstrate their stupidity. Oh....by the way....soybeans are subsidized as well. Look at that...what agricultural products are foreign countries implementing retaliatory tariffs primarily on? Those we subsidize. And who is going to win? Idiots.

It's fun to watch Republicans and conservatives pooh-pooh free trade in the era of Trump. :)

Technically, there has never been free trade in America since it's inception.
But after NAFTA and Clinton trade policies, America is pretty much subsidizing other countries to the detriment of our workers.

When NAFTA went through Georgetown and the US Navy War College had lectures about how a trade war with China was inevitable, they predicted by 2025. If I had to guess, they are probably the ones who made sure the USA continued to be the 800lb gorilla for this exact scenario.

What free trade?

free for EuroPUKE that have TAXES on our cars etc

free for the CHINX that steal our IP and have BARS set up against us

and only STRONHORSE TRUMP steped in while others ignored it

Trump's beef with Canadian milk

At issue is the Canadian supply-management system, which covers dairy, eggs, and poultry products. The system sets domestic production quotas and keeps prices stable, thereby guaranteeing farmers a steady income. And, in order to keep the supply stable, Canada blocks imports from other countries, including the U.S., by imposing tariffs—up to 270 percent on dairy products. About 80 percent of Canada’s dairy farmers are concentrated in two provinces, Quebec and Ontario, both of which are crucial to Trudeau’s political fortunes. (The system is by no means universally popular in Canada.)

It doesn’t help that the U.S. subsidizes its own dairy industry heavily—up to $22 billion in 2015, according to one study. “The Canadians say, ‘Hey, wait a minute. You subsidize milk, too,’” Kelly, who is now a research scholar at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, said. “You’ve got all sorts of support programs for milk.”

In other words, Canada props up its dairy industry through quotas that cap the amount produced, and imposes heavy tariffs on imports. The U.S. subsidizes its dairy industry, resulting in lower costs for U.S. consumers, but a supply glut.

Those subsidies exist in the U.S. for the same reason Canada has a supply-management system: domestic politics.

Whether or not there has been free trade to whatever degree is debatable. But what is not debatable is the enormous amount of lip service that had been paid free trade over the decades.

Whether or not there is "free trade" is open to debate.

What cannot ignored, though, is the fact that a tariff is a tax on goods, ultimately paid by consumers.

Those in favor of the new tariffs are in favor of higher taxes.

In other countries......no wonder the left is screeching like a bunch of stuck pigs, taxes are only good when raised on US citizens, preferably the working/middle class or you and your ilk just aren't happy.

Trump and his asshole brigade will do what ever makes them money. They don't give on half of one percent of a shit about the nation as a whole.

Do you think that's unique to Trump and his asshole brigade?

The tariffs ARE a tax on the American middle class.

What, you think suppliers and retailers are just going to eat their losses?

Of course they will pass on the cost increases to..you guessed it. The wal-mart and amazon shopping masses.

Deflection. All countries "interfere" with other nations, pointing the finger at the US while not doing so for ALL the other nations is hypocritical. Using such an argument in a discussion about trade tariff's is ignorant because it seeks to make it appear that the US is the bully while everyone else is nothing more than a victim of US aggression.

That whole narrative is a lie.
Oh, I thought we were talking about America. I see you dont like that aspect of her. You wouldn't want to be seen as a bully...lol :)

Trump has been very cautious not to put tariffs on consumer goods, he tariffs the middle of the supply chain because he knows low-information voters (*cough*Moochie*cough*) will make excuses for him.

Maybe she understands economics better than you do.
