New Trade Deal With The UK

To be fair, when many (most?) Americans want something (artisan cheese, chocolate, etc) they just go on-line and order it. Where I live I can go to any number of large grocery stores or specialty shops and get artisan cheese, chocolate, etc) from America and from around the world that is always in stock.
Fairly “easy access”.

👍

America produces some award winning cheese. Do Europeans really believe Americans eat nothing but processed cheese???

🤔
Yep.

As I mentioned earlier the reputation of Americans here now is beyond low. You're just a laughing stock, and apologies to any non-MAGA Americans reading this but unfortunately you are now all tainted by the same brush.

This I promise is 100% true, a couple of weeks ago I was on the bus coming home from work and there was a small group of American tourists sat across the aisle and they were complaining about how condescending their hotel concierge had been, talking to them as if they were idiots, and I really had trouble not just explaining that it was not the concierges fault. That they would have heard your accent and just assumed you were stupid.

And why? You eat chicken that is produced on farms that are so filthy the birds have to be washed in chlorine to make them 'edible' FFS..., you spray some freaking weird stuff from a can and call it cheese, you have a CEO of a major company who goes around giving Hitler salutes on national television without considering how it might not play out well to the majority of his customer base and apparently some of you think he is a 'genius', and don't even get us started on how you insist on still being allowed to play at being cowboys no matter how many children get killed in their schools each year...

In his first term when Trump came on a 'state visit' they had to fly him around from engagement to engagement in a helicopter so people couldn't get at him. This time they will need to put him in a submarine. (And sending him to the middle of nowhere in Scotland thinking that will keep the general public away from him is a bad idea. The Scots hate him even more than the English and Irish, look how they keep digging up his golf course, and they do hunting at Balmoral and unlike Americans that lot can shoot straight).

I did say "easy access to"

There's going to be some artisan makers in the middle of nowhere , creating cheese that would make a French man cry. But i don't want to have to go on a quest every time I want decent cheese. I want world class cheese in my local deli, and also high end cheese in my local supermarket. I want to walk up to the cheese counter and see an award winning local cheese, a respectable selection of European imported cheese, I want the option of watching them cut me a wedge from the round. I don't want to nip to the shop and be faced with nothing but shrink wrapped orange rubber.

Blasphemy!! Outrageous and disgusting slander!! Wash your mouth out!
That's like me saying all black coffee is the same, just because I have no taste for coffee.
Just at the local supermarket, not even venturing as far as the deli, I could have a choice of chocolate based on the country of origin of the beans.

All the same???

The climate and environment of where it's grown will always have an influence on natural products but dark chocolate is rated the same (dark chocolate) and graded on sugar percentage. Or at least not that I'm aware of.

Fact is Americans know virtually nothing about the world beyond their misinformed hubris.

“discussing” anything with them is a good way to mock them, nothing more.

Lol

This is like someone telling me that reading is overrated, me assuming that they have rejected Steinbeck and Hardy, only for me to then discover that their only reading material has been adverts for industrial machine lubricant

I did say that European milk chocolate tastes different to me depending on where its made.

You make it sound like I'm a heathen just because I'm American. Let me assure you that I'd be a heathen regardless of where I'm from. A blasphemous heathen at that.

Damn, you’re hard to please (satisfy?).

😳

😑

🤣

Seriously, though, we in America can get high quality cheese, chocolate, etc, without much difficulty / effort…for now…

With “DonOld the dotard” in charge, things could change radically & rapidly.

🤬
Inconvenience is more than 30 minutes drive between me and something that tastes the way cheese should. The village shop, which is three minutes walk away and the size of a shoebox, sells handmade sausages and an acceptable brie.

To me, the American supermarket experience felt like walking through a desert. Apart from the fresh peanut butter machine. I've never seen one here and it was pretty cool.

I will forgive you. Eventually.

<-- is now squeaky clean and has a satisfied stomach.

President Donald Trump, joined by representatives from the United Kingdom in the Oval Office, announced on Thursday that the two countries will cut back on trade barriers in the first major trade deal for the president.

The agreement will allow the United States to gain increased market access in the United Kingdom — the sixth-largest economy in the world — for billions of dollars worth of American exports, according to Trump. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who spoke to the president over the phone, told Trump he is “really pleased” with the deal between the two allies. The final details are still being worked out, but Trump will keep some tariffs in place on British imports. The president emphasized that the deal would boost both countries’ industrial bases and help protect steel.

“Both countries have agreed that economic security is national security and will be working together as allies to ensure that we have a strong industrial base and appropriate export controls and protections for key technologies and industries like steel,” Trump said. “Steel was a big factor. Both countries will become stronger with steel.”

Shortly after announcing the deal, President Trump posted a chart on social media, showing that Britain’s tariffs on U.S. goods will drop to 1.8% while “reciprocal tariffs” on the United Kingdom will remain at 10%. Trump said other nations should not view the 10% tariff on Britain as a template for how the administration will negotiate future deals.

The "deal" literally says, "NOT A BINDING AGREEMENT" on the bottom.

Zero deals have been done since the beginning of his second reign of error.

fat orange jesus hasn't made a single deal since he took office.

the faggity euros are too tough for him to negotiate with.

derp.

There’s still no complete tariff deal with the UK. 😆 Concept of a plan in two weeks?

They did announce agreement on tariffs for a few specific items today.

The UK should be the easiest to reach an agreement with, because we have a trade surplus with them. Why did Trump fuck around with new tariffs on someone we had a surplus with? Stupidity.

The UK is one of the few major countries the U.S. doesn’t run a trade deficit with. In 2024, the U.S. had a trade surplus of nearly $12 billion with the UK.

The UK was the ninth ranked international trade partner of the U.S. in 2024, totaling $148 billion in two-way trade.
