All they had to do was agree to look the other way when it comes to :

  • Extermination
  • Murder
  • Enslavement
  • Torture
  • Imprisonment
  • Rape
  • Forced abortions
  • Other sexual violence
  • Persecution on political, religious, racial and gender grounds
  • The "forcible transfer of populations"
  • The "enforced disappearance of persons and the inhuman act of knowingly causing prolonged starvation"

List of Presidents NOT willing to look the other way:

  • 34. Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961)
  • 35. John F. Kennedy (1961-1963)
  • 36. Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969)
  • 37. Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
  • 38. Gerald Ford (1974-1977)
  • 39. Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
  • 40. Ronald Reagan (1981-1989)
  • 41. George Bush (1989-1993)
  • 42. Bill Clinton (1993-2001)
  • 43. George W. Bush (2001-2009)
  • 44. Barack Obama (2009-2017)

The other presidents did not value "good optics" as highly as the current White House occupant.

Good optics? What about when Trump dragged the American Flag through the mud and wiped his ass with it?

For one thing, NK did not have nuclear weapons during those previous administrations.

They also had to forget the US and Allied war dead in the unfinished Korean War.

North Korea didn't have nuclear weapons during Bush II and Obama?

(Note: there may be some ambiguity in what we understand "weapon" to be. There's a fair question, even now, about what NK's ability to deliver that weapon really is.)

Soooo...if we're so fucking badass and they were playing with air rifles, then why didn't we finish the war way back when and make Korea one whole country BEFORE they had the nukey nukes?

Because we weren't fighting just the North Koreans but the masses of the Chinese Army supplied with arms and aircraft by the USSR.

Cuba. Castros. Some president did some major ass kissing with these murderous thugs and got nothing in return.

Trump, in his capacity as President of the United States, actually called Kim a man “who loves his country very much.”

That’s obscene.

And the foregoing intransigence is exactly what got us to the point of being threatened with North Korean nuclear weapons.

Can you give me a specific example of Castro ass-kissing.

I’m not being confrontational. I am currently researching Obama’s statements about Castro, looking to see if he said anything that rises to the obscenity of calling a member of the Kim despotic legacy a lover of his country. Obama may have, I just haven’t found it yet.

I can not deny that US policy toward DPRK really does look like the most irresponsible game of Hot Potato in history.

But I don’t know if a “I luv u 2 bro” Beer Summit was the right step. But still, it was a step, and President Moon deserves credit for that.

He'll find it, never fear.

It'll just take...a...lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. Like Sheriff Joe's investigation into those birther records.

And, assuming this is correct, do you think that was a good thing?

It all started with a question during a CNN/YouTube debate on July 24, 2007. Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?"

"I would," Obama said. "And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them — which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration — is ridiculous."
