I actually have one with a moose antler handle and a hole for my fingers which I prefer to a chef's knife, but I can't throw it in the dishwasher.

We picked up an old tourist model in an antique shop in PA with a plastic handle for 5 bucks. Not comfortable, but I use it for whatever I feel like, and don't care if it gets wrecked. That's the one I used to peel plastic.

They're dandy for taking the ribs off salmon fillets. I don't think they very good for skinning any normal game. But, maybe they'd be fine for a walrus. They are oversold at the gift stores, but they are kinda cool for chopping up herbs, etc.

I don't have any fancy skinners, but I can take a moose or caribou apart with a Buck folding hunter.
