For the slow here, I'll restate my position.

If you want to bear arms in public, be a vetted member of a well-regulated militia. Then you can be called up for national defense and security, as per the Constitution. A civilian has no other reason to bear arms in public. If you're not regulated and you carry in public, you should be shot down. If you carry anywhere near a school or church, you should be shot down. We don't let rogue dogs roam free. Rogue gunmen deserve no more consideration.

That's in public. What you do with your weapons in private is your own concern, as long as you responsibly keep them secured. That's a non-starter.

Nugent, like all musicians/songwriters deals in imagery and repetitive chorus, which in this case is "soulless.

While I don't think he did a very good job of stringing this chorus together, I do understand where he's coming from.

His anger, like mine, is primarily directed at the media and academia. It's apparent from what he said that he feels the kids are just "useful tools" in this debate. The media and academia are cold bloodily (soullessly) using the kids as pawns and as such, to a certain extent, and unwittingly, they inherit those properties as well.

Those kids were failed miserably by the very laws and law enforcement officials whose duty it was to protect them. Yet they are having their justifiable anger/grief focused on an inanimate object legally owned by millions of law abiding citizens and an organization that has spent considerable time and effort to push for enactment of the very laws that law enforcement ignored.

For fuck sake! You're gunna try to apologize for the comments he made by blaming it on the fact that he's a musician? And then try to explain what he said by stating that it was anger at the media and academia? This is supposedly an intelligent man. He wasn't venting his anger at the media, or academia or even liberals. He was taking a cheap asshole shot at the kids who lived through this horror, the kids who are expressing their opinions AS THEY SHOULD. I never liked the man much. He's an arrogant asshole in my estimation. And he just proved that my measure of him is accurate.

I will agree that the laws and law enforcement failed to protect those kids. The deputy that refused to go in after the shooter shouldn't be fired, he should be jailed.

I hate to break it to you, but they aren't focusing their ire on an inanimate object; they are focusing it on those who for years have given us a lot of talk but have never done anything to stop the killing. NOTHING! No armed guards in schools, no reasonable gun regulations, NOTHING!

One of these days someone needs to explain to me why the extreme hawks we have like Nugent, Bolton and Trump, never served in the military, have never fired a round in anger or had to kill someone, yet they try to sound like Rambo.

The first two clauses explain the reasoning behind the clause that states who the rights are granted to, which is the people... The rights are not granted to "the militia", nor to any other entity, are they?

The wording of many other amendments is exactly the same, with a proposal/establishment clause being issued before the rights are again, granted to the people...
