Government shutdown over illegals?

You guys seem to be inordinately preoccupied with the topic.
Fetishes play out pretty openly here, and endless mating dances with not-so-subtle invitations and hints. It's like WILD KINGDOM on ketamine.

Another day, another vote.............maybe?

The senate democrats want assurances that the senate (and the house over which they have no control) spend the time bought (3 weeks) debating DACA. Apparently the budget really is a secondary issue with the democrats.

Meanwhile the generic poll spread between the democrats and republicans is tracking back in favor of the republicans in the aftermath of the Tax Bill. No big surprise there and I'm pretty certain that the democrats knew that was gong to happen, hence their desperation to do something now re. DACA. While the Tax Bill is cited as the primary reason for this trend reversal the democrats can't be certain and I suspect that their internal polling is indicating that their stance on DACA is contributing to the trend.

While the majority of Americans are sympathetic to the plight of the DACA crowd it is also true that the majority of Americans want the border secured and the illegals cleaned out. The democrats are trying to tie one issue to the other. They specifically talk about DACA to the press while their demands to the president have tied in the rest of the illegals as well. Pretty much an obvious attempt to distract the public, "look, there's a butterfly."

It appears that at least two of the GOP holdouts will join with the five Democrats whom are willing to make this a bipartisan bill. Funny how I said that those Senators up for reelection would buck their party.

They are probably being reminded of the saga of Tommy Daschle. Not often you see a senate majority leader thrown out on his ear.

Something similar happened to a Republican leader in the House not too long ago, I just cannot remember the name at the moment.

No, more recent than that. It's one of those things that you don't remember until you stop thinking about it altogether. He wasn't the speaker, maybe the majority leader?

Proof, that especially in the House, you had better put your voters before the party. We also see proof of that, as I have discussed earlier that Senators up for reelection suddenly rediscover their constituents and spend a whole year kissing their ass before going back to serve the interests of the party. I hope those that pushed the 17th Amendment on us reserved themselves a special spot in hell.

You were kidding??

I thought you were making a salient point.

I've been having a PM conversation with another poster about the repercussions of what happens when government collapses and leaves a dependent population hunkering down in place waiting for government to bail them out until some of them finally get back in touch with the idea of self-reliance.

Yeah. Like our fine service men and women that the republicans refused to pay or give death benefits to when Sen Duckworth asked them to vote on it.

Obama: Government shutdown will delay pay to troops

Yeah. Like our fine service men and women that the republicans refused to pay or give death benefits to when Sen Duckworth asked them to vote on it.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration warned Wednesday that a federal shutdown would undermine the economic recovery, delay pay to U.S. troops fighting in three wars, slow the processing of tax returns and limit small business loans and government-backed mortgages during peak home buying season.

The dire message, delivered two days before the federal government’s current spending authority expires, appeared aimed at jolting congressional Republicans into a budget compromise. Billions of dollars apart, congressional negotiators were working to strike a deal by Friday to avert a shutdown by setting spending limits through the end of September. The last such shutdown took place 15 years ago and lasted 21 days.

President Barack Obama telephoned House Speaker John Boehner Wednesday, and Boehner’s office said the speaker told Obama he was hopeful a deal could be reached.

VA whistleblowers accuse Duckworth of ignoring veteran abuse, corruption

Yeah. Like our fine service men and women that the republicans refused to pay or give death benefits to when Sen Duckworth asked them to vote on it.

During a radio appearance Monday, Veterans Affairs whistleblowers Germaine Clarno and Dr. Lisa Nee claimed that Rep. Tammy Duckworth did little to respond to their claims of mistreatment of veterans and corruption within the Hines VA.

According to their allegations, Duckworth was largely unresponsive to evidence related to veteran mistreatment and inadequate investigations conducted by the VA's inspector general.

Clarno claimed that, although she approached Duckworth "many" times, the congresswoman did little to respond to her claims.

"I never felt that [Duckworth] wanted to hear exactly what was going on," Clarno said. “I really thought going to Tammy Duckworth, that she would be the one who would stand up and say this has got to stop.”
