After seeing some of the locals on the streets, this evening, I am doing very well in my life.

Truly.

This morning, I happened upon a guy waiting outside of his work. He had been there two hours in a borrowed coat.

I was thankful for having family I wanted to spend time with, family and friends.

I was sad that I missed a gathering of those I hold most dear, and thankful I did not have to deal with those I don’t particularly care for. Relatively speaking.

Truly.

This morning out at the recycling plant which is located near absolutely nothing there was a guy waiting by the gate at 4 a.m. He's been there since he got off work at 2 the place was closed. His ride had not showed up. The reason that he was not hypothermic was because it was fortunately 57 degrees out and another employee, as they were leaving, noticed he did not have a jacket and loaned him a light windbreaker.

It's his first week on the job and he plans to buy a coat with his first paycheck.

I would have given him the one I have on but it wasn't warm enough for what he needs my really heavy down one I'd rather not give up so I'm sitting outside of Goodwill, hoping when they open I can find something suitable so I don't have to give up the one I don't want to give up.

The guy was amazingly cheerful about his lot in life. At the age of 5, his father (a sole parent for reasons not clear to me) abandoned him to the state when he was found to have mental disabilities.

He's 44 years old and has a behavioral health case manager at a place I'm familiar with. They do pretty good work but it makes me wonder is he just a recent induction into the program and what did he do before that?

He might have a history of substance abuse issues but it didn't seem like that; it seems like he's just developmentally challenged.

Whenever I run into someone like that I'm always grateful at how privileged my life truly is.

You know lots of people from this forum in real life, yes?

Are you planning on celebrating at another time?

We stayed home last year, as the little one was just out of the hospital. It was very nice, but Thanksgiving to me has always been about lots and lots of people celebrating together.

It is about getting together and spending time with those you love, and even those you kinda just tolerate because they are with one of those you love, not about the date on the calendar.

We will figure stuff out. Maybe we'll have Christmas at the cabin.....
