We got a load of wind.
A real load of wind; not quite into the Hurricane or 'severe storm' area, but enough to be anxious about the security of aerials and garden furniture.
And it's quite cool; uncomfortably so. The sort where you wonder if you should put on a thicker pullover or simply turn on the heating.

Heating, coffee - in that order, I think.


PS. Tell me about Oatmeal, please. Is that like our "Porridge" ?

Pretty much. The way we understand 'porridge' (if we use the term at all) is as a bowl of cooked grain of whatever kind while oatmeal is specifically oat porridge. However, on this side of the Pond, or at least the parts I've ever lived in, we tend to specify what goes into the pot.

Oatmeal porridge. Coffee oatmeal porridge, with marshmallows, but brewed with strong coffee, and cocoa, and walnuts or filberts, topped with whipped cream. Did I mention coffee?

I'm finally giving in to the changing season. They're predicting a low of 37 for the morning. That could mean a temperature in the 20's at my house--depending on the wind. If it doesn't happen in the morning, then it won't be long.

I pulled the tomato plants and threw them away. I dug out the gladiolas--which seems odd because the last flower spike is still blooming on the kitchen table. I need to figure out what to do with the eight variously-sized eggplants and the last of the basil.

I noticed that the garlic I planted two weeks ago is starting to come up through the mulch.

The gladiolas are drying on the patio table. I'll put them away later, then put the table away for the winter and bring out the chiminea.

First, remove the cork from the bottle. Lightly chill the rose first of course. Then dip delicately. When the level of rose in the bottle has been pruned sufficiently, replace cork and restore to fridge.

I pruned my climbing roses with a come-a-long and a chain this year. They were taking over the corner of the house and porch.

Here it's usually done in the spring when they first show signs of new growth. That's usually March.

Aside from that, how you prune probably depends on the kind of rose. For my relatively new hybrid teas I follow the advice I've read. Remove dead and old canes to make room for new growth. Keep three or four young canes selected to be evenly spaced. They should be no more than 18 inches tall.

But things are done differently all over the place and it can be hard to get good gardening advice unless you're getting it locally.

Lol - just typed in "pruning" and must have finger fumbled - auto-correct came up with "orgasm..." How does that even work? Interesting device, I didn't know it had site specific predictive text. It doesn't always work properly though - cock always turns into co co (I've not yet conditioned myself to fix it later with 'find/replace' - it just looks soooo wrong in the draft).
