I did find that the two best things I had after Fran was a chainsaw and a gas Grill. I could cook and make coffee. After the big storms in 2010, I found having a propane camping stove was good too. I had coffee and when My next door neighbor was frazzled she was amazed that I walked over with a cup. So I took her into the house, made her breakfast and got her attitude more positive. She was an older German lady.

You have just given me great inspiration for the winter storm season that is coming here in the northern Philadelphia suburbs. I have a feeling that Old Man Winter is going to shit lots of snow on us about four months from now.
 
Morning everyone.
Still in recovery mode. We still have people here without power. Duke Energy has really messed this up. We have power crews waiting for instructions. Getting no direction on where to go next. My family has been taking water, ice, offering whatever help we can. Getting interviewed Sunday afternoon. One of my reporter friends has been watching my support team & first responder family and the posts on what and where we are helping. The inside look at what the city did above what people saw "on Facebook". There have been a one jerks who claim that we did nothing since none of us stopped to take pictures and post on Facebook. Seriously.

Yesterday I was the only volunteer to show up but I spent 3 hours with a rake clearing tombstones at out National Cemetery. The big guys had cut their services money = staff. There were 4 guys out in the fields with tractors trying to clear trees and bigger limbs. I piled up Spanish moss, smaller limbs & twigs that the mower couldn't chop up.

I had a couple of the old lady volunteers from CERT really don't like me. Apparently I'm too military for them to deal with... Or as the PD tech guy said.... You actually expected them to do the job they volunteered to do. :D
 
Hi all. Long time since I checked in. I hope everyone is safe and well from all the bad stuff going around lately. Been dealing with some here too.
I wish we could have some of the rains plaguing the east coast out here in the west where we're dealing with the fires. My son almost lost his place to a fire set by an arsonist. The FD managed to stop the fire 5 feet from his house. They lost a barn, shed and their diesel storage drum but the house and all their animals made it out safely.
Still trying to deal with another loss that is hitting me harder than I expected. My mother in law who my wife and I have been caring for over the last 15 years is losing her battle with AML leukemia. Today is her 83rd birthday and she will probably not last through the day. Remember to tell those you love how you feel every time you see them because you never know how much longer you will be able to do that.

Today I am so sorry to hear all this. Sending prayers and Angels out to you.
I'm taking a quiet day only taking care of my friends pets while they are on a cruise.

Checking in - finally. Just got power last night - water is still under boil alert.

Starry, I have a niece over in Polk County dealing with Duke energy too. They sound like a mess. She has a 2 week old baby and was finally able to find a hotel room Friday night so at least they are in a/c now.

Nothing major here - just cosmetic damage but no flooding which is always my biggest fear.

Now in cleanup mode today - my house is a mess.

Hope y'all are doing good. The sun is out today, Cumberland Farms has iced coffee and my bakery is in fall season with pumpkin bread (my delights yesterday - lol)

I did a survey a few days back in preparation for winter storm season. The situation is not good. One big tree is leaning so far that I am afraid that it might come crashing into the bed room. We still have no way to run the gas furnace without "juice" from electrical mains. The only thing that we do have is good enough water pressure to be able to flush toilets even after the power to the pump fails. I really need to stock up on food that can be eaten without being cooked.
 
It's always the simple things that make yer day right?

It's been a real interesting few weeks. I've seen the best of the village here and the worst. Anyone whose been a first responder or from a support family have done the team work thing. The ones who have been UGLY are the ones who act self entitled and help few if anyone. We had one city council lady taking free ice from the fire station give out and giving it away to "her" people but acting like she went out and bought / supplied it instead of sharing the info so they could get ice from the station. She's acted like this is a contest and "her" people are the ones who jumped me on Facebook which led to that interview & news story. I'm still a little freaked by being on the front page.

It's an early "Hard Cider" season in the Schoharie Valley, but from the regular cider tastings, it's going to be a good yield in the spring and summer.
 
My PT is amazed. The hurricane tree clearing at the little cemetery has actually been a good thing. I kept to her guidelines and I'm really stronger then she expected from it. I see the ortho Tuesday but so far my PT & my acupuncture Doc want to take the next step forward to working on my neck next. :nana::nana::nana:

Tomorrow is catch up day for the new tire, oil change and some groceries.
The laptop is totally dead so I need to deal with that next but I really don't want windows 10.
So until I can afford that it's Thank God for my smarter then me Droid.
