The US also did not sign onto Kyoto, but still did far better at reducing energy use as a proportion of GDP than nearly all the signatories, none of whom came anywhere close to meeting their commitments made in that agreement.

The header/subject line of this thread is misleading to the point of of being fake news.

The Paris agreement is not doomed to failure because of anything that Obama did. At best his actions may have given Trump the excuse to give notice of USA withdrawal from the accord, but that in itself will not lead to the failure of the accord. Others will assume the leadership role as the USA takes it's lonely stroll into isolationism.

It's a little arrogant to assume that USA withdrawal will automatically cause failure.
