Interesting choice, but Garland doesn't want the job.

The Senate's top Republican says “we can do with a little less drama from the White House” so the GOP can focus on advancing the party's legislative goals.

Appearing Tuesday morning on "Bloomberg Daybreak," Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was responding to reports that President Trump revealed highly classified information about the Islamic State group to Russian officials.

McConnell says, “I think we could do with a little less drama from the White House on a lot of things so that we can focus on our agenda.” He said that agenda included deregulation, tax reform and repealing and replacing the healthcare law.

McConnell also says he recommended to Trump that he nominate Merrick Garland to replace fired FBI Director James B. Comey. Garland, the federal judge nominated to the Supreme Court last year by President Obama, was denied a Senate hearing by McConnell.

Garland has not commented, but close associates contacted several news organizations Tuesday morning to say that the judge had no interest in leaving his current position.

I guess McConnell figured Garland's confirmation would be easy and uncontroversial, unlike that of any name Trump proposed.

I also guess he wants an FBI director who does not have any qualms about continuing to investigate Trump, and that is very telling.

And he probably wants to free up a seat on the DC court for a conservative appointee.

What, me cynic?

He's most likely gathering cheap "look at how reasonable I am" credits, knowing Garland isn't interested.

This is surely a sign of desperation. This might be the best indication that they know he is going down like the Titanic.

Let us hope so. If he lasts much longer, America will be the Titanic and Trump the iceberg.

Careful, Pence has worse policy ideas with zero entertainment value. He and Sessions want 1955 all over again.

I know, I know. But at least Pence is (comparatively) intelligent and knowledgeable and experienced and sane and predictable and not embarrassing; and Congressional Dems know how to deal with a Pub president, however odious, who fits that basic description. I'll sleep easier with him in the OO, and hope for change in the midterms -- Pence would be almost as good as Trump at inspiring anti-Pub voter reaction.

I wasn't there at the time, but I hear very nice things about it...

If I put in some overtime at The Malt Shop maybe I can buy myself a nice 57 Chevy in a couple of years!

Well, I sure hope you're white -- what am I saying, of course you're white.

I wish somebody would float Mitch out in the middle of the Atlantic somewhere ... from about 30,000 feet.

There is something to be said for leaving 'Rump in office until the '18 elections. Hopefully he'll trash the GOP enough for a swing of both houses.
