Nope. They wanted domestic and foreign cuts. For example, originally they didn't think that the U.S. should be paying any country foreign aid (that included our allies like Israel and our enemies like Iran.) They also didn't want the U.S. military stationed in over 100 countries around the globe. They wanted other countries to step up and pay for their own defense. They also wanted to cut a lot of wasted bureaucracy from the Federal government because eventually, our massive debts would crush us.

There would be no public assistance, or anything else for that matter, if we collapse due to our debts.

Again another right wing movement that has had it's agenda hijacked. At least in the publics eye. A few fringers with racist or fundamentalist religious views and all that talk and work about conservative fiscal responsibility goes out the door.

As to be expected as they are by far the largest ethnic group. But blacks only make up 14% of population and yet receive 25% of benefits. Now this is a socio-economic issue not a race issue. Well not quite. All it takes is for some racist to jump on that stat and it derails the whole argument of the benefits or harm of the welfare state. You now find yourself in coming from behind.

Statistics showed in the early 1900s that once someone drops below a certain point in earnings it is impossible to escape that economic class without assistance. You then have an ever increasing poor class. Next thing you know and you have things like malnutrition and possible peasant revolutions redistributing wealth on a large scale.

Been quite a while since the west saw a peasant rebellion. The modern welfare state is the reason for that.
