We just launched 43 Tomahawk missiles at Syria!

I wonder why death by chemical weapons is worse than death by bullets or death by shrapnel.

You do have a far great chance of dodging or seeking cover from bullets or shrapnel. Chemical weapons you don't. A decidedly unfair way to wage war. No less gruesome but less fair. Not near as discriminatory either.

Valid point.
I would hope that if Syrian soldiers loyal to al-Assholewithchemicalweapons came across toddlers they wouldn't shoot them. In that part of the world, you just never know.

They had it coming!

Just have to hope this is not an emotional lashing out by the POTUS. Not the US job to enact revenge. Bring a degree of justice and disable ability or will to do it again. But not revenge. Dangerous road!

Considering the administration's policy as recently as three days ago was completely different, "impulsive" would seem to be the word for it. And it's certainly strange that Trump is so moved by the killing of people who he believes are unworthy to enter the United States.

A response for the use of chemical weapons was justified -- though a president isn't supposed to be able to respond militarily without authorization from Congress -- and I assume the Russians will have the good sense to keep quiet about it, since their guarantees about Assad having no more chemical weapons turned out to be bullshit.

But if the new policy is regime change, and I've seen some leaks to the effect that maybe it is, I'd be curious to know how we intend to pull that off.

After as many as 59 Tomahawks there can't be much left of that airbase. 1,000 lbs of conventional explosives. Maybe mix in some runway denial sub-munitions. GPS coordinates of hardened pens (if the cunts are smart enough to have hardened pens).

People about to find out just how chummy the Donald is with Vlado.

His objective isn't to kill Russians, so Mattis probably called his counterpart and told him to get his personnel to get out of the way, take no action, we're coming in to take out the airbase.

They took measures not to hit the storage spaces where Sarin gas is believed to be kept. But I'd think those runways will need to be repaired before they can be used again. There might even be a follow up if needed.

According to reports, the attack was focused to shut that airbase down in order to prevent further flights from dropping more sarin gas bombs. They made the point to avoid the gas stockpile at the base. Also, the attack was timed when there would be the least amount of people at that base to minimize loss of life. The U.S. even contacted the Russians ahead of time to clear out their troops from that base.

Actually he's cleaning up the shit after eight years of incompetence. Some estimates say 300-400,000 Syrians have been murdered by Assad in the last seven years. I doubt that would have happened if we had anything resembling a leader during that time.

Obama's hands are covered in blood.

Obama asked congress for approval to use military force, and heard crickets in response. Congress didn't even have enough spine to take a vote.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, warned on Thursday of "negative consequences" if the United States carries out military strikes on Syria over a deadly toxic gas attack.
"We have to think about negative consequences, negative consequences, and all the responsibility if military action occurred will be on shoulders of those who initiated such doubtful and tragic enterprise," Safronkov told reporters when asked about possible U.S. strikes.

No worries, Vlad, haven't your heard your boss manipulated stupid American voters so friend-of-Russia Donald Trump would win?
Trump won't do a thing. Just ask any Democrat in Congress.

Remember what else this 'impulsive' turd has access to. And mentioned using.

So the janitors and cleaners get it not the military personnel. Same story when Billy hit Libya years ago. Took out Libyan intelligence building and all the late night shift of janitors. Think myself I would go for middle of the day try get as many trained personnel as possible. When launching high explosive missiles not really the time to worry about enemy casualties. Kill 'em all let Allah sort them out.

That should take a couple of hours.

A tomahawk missile is the size of a telephone pole loaded with a thousand pounds of high explosives. Fifty nine of those missiles remodeled that base to look like the surface of the moon.

It will take more than a few hours to fix.

What? Take out all our CIA people?

Not all runway denial sub-munitions explode. Syrian or rather Russian sappers will be busy for a few days getting rid of them.

We've got such a great history with regime change...

Should have learned your lesson when you tried it at home in 1776! Did better in Germany and Japan though. Problem lies when you try to cheap out on it. Or prematurely bail.

That 2013 sarin attack near Damascus followed Barack Obama's famous "red line" threat in 2012, when he indicated if Assad used chemical weapons the U.S. would respond, possibly militarily. Well, Assad did, and Obama didn't. Instead, Obama took Assad's word that he would give up his chemical weapons stockpile — and, worse, he relied on Russia to keep Assad in line. That would be the same Russia now undermining American elections, according to the same Obama and his cohorts.
In 2014, then-Secretary of State John Kerry boasted of his deal with Russia and Syria, "We got 100% of the chemical weapons out." Evidently not.

Or have no sensitivity or understanding of a region...

US forces called Afghanistans Haji for a reason. When they went into remote villages and in pidgin asked for the village leader all the illiterate villagers could produce was maybe one man who had been on pilgrimage to Mecca. This is called hajj.

US intelligence may be able to read the licence plate of a car in Red Square but can't find out the daily going ons in some remote Hindu Kush mountain village. Or can't be bothered to find out. Not very romantic or profitable.

Il Donald is probably giggling like a school girl. Assad's gas attack was a godsend to T-Rumps regime. Nothing like an attack on a tin pot fascist to boost your approval ratings. Got GW a second term.
