I for one added a signature line to my postings some time ago (no political or religious discussion) to try and stay fun and flirty, but it's been a hard road with so much determination by a fairly large and vocal bunch to make it confrontational. And I'm a guy....

That's really interesting. And a bummer. It's hard to say if it's the general increase in and fatigue of Trump chatter because of politicopalypse or if the GBL really did suck out some of the "fun" threads/posts (probably both), but as someone who starts both political and fluffy threads, it's just hard to get momentum going in a conversation. When it does happen, it's usually a heated debate or motivated by some other conflict/negative energy, which are then amplified because they attract a crowd.

I think it's probably a blend of the above, and unmoderated conversation spaces probably all tend to the loudest voices over time. Newcomers stop seeing a place they can jump in. And so we're left with the breakfast club, who meet every day to piss in each other's oatmeal and talk about the same shit. The alts are just weird. I've never understood the motivation, but after many years, I am convinced that it is usually something destructive.

But you are right - the best part about the GB has always been the flirting.

As a newcomer - as in never seen lit, never been to lit, never knew lit existed before I registered, have no idea of the history...

The general board is angry. A lot of anger. For whatever reason, whatever cause the GB is an angry place. There are a handful of posters that weigh in heavily with their anger - with the topics they post, the responses they make.

Mixed in with a smattering of porn.

So anger and porn pretty much dominates GB.

I prefer politics and the playground.

I used to flirt and fluff quite regularly. But I also posted on politics and current events as well. About 8 years ago when the trolls started flooding into the board I picked up a few stragglers in the politics and CE threads that thought it was cute to follow me around with their disgusting behavior into the flirt/fluff threads. So why spoil everyone elses fun by dragging those assholes in behind you?

From what I can tell there are only about two or three females on the GB and they may be imposters. There's little room for flirting in a room full of masked knife fighters.:D;)
