Idea: The political board should be a sub of the GB

So, what you're saying is that there's no real distinction from the GB.

Once up on a time there was. The Gb was the less violent but equally crazy big brother to the polital boards. Political was where are the really big fruit cakes hung out. Think of the gb like a hang out for trolls and the political board was under the bridge where they lived.

As the site tumbleweed I will visit a few of you. I like variety.

Cool. I would probably get tired of arguing with myself. As long as you do not disagree with me too much. I am completely open minded, believe in diversity, and accepting of all.....

Unless you disagree with me that is.

I personally like how the board looks now, and I feel that the fears that the lounge might kill the GB didn't materialize. It's still almost as diverse as it was before.
And I think that the Lounge "stole" only a minority of GB posters, because most of them still post here whenever they want to talk about anything of more substance,

But I fear that the amalgamation of the political board into the GB would destroy that diversity which has always been one of the appeals of the GB.

How my brain interprets all of your posts:

https://i.imgur.com/rkSjypu.jpg

If I recall the political board was created to keep the sites extreme polital nuts in a nice tiddy box. Some came short of yelling hail Hitler ever other post. Some used racial6y derogatory words like they were ketchup on fries. Others just spammed the boards with their every political thought and conspiracy. It was a way to keep the crazy contained in other words. I have not been here in a while so maybe that has changed.

I mean, they still do all that. I'm suggesting this change because I think it will help with the containing, if that's the intention.

I'd say there's an equally strong case for dissolving the General Board altogether. Realistically, there's no thread created here that couldn't pretty easily be slotted into one of the other forums. Seems to me this section of the board exists only to indulge certain asswipes hereabouts in their delusions of superiority.

"I won't post in the Playground because that place is for number-counting simpletons! Now let me post on the GB because the intellectuals there are gonna want to read my sophisticated think piece diatribe on how niggers, wetbacks and towelheads are ruining America."

"I want everyone to see my tits but I won't post them in that Amateur Pic section where they belong because that place is crawling with skeevy mouth-breathing leg-humpers. Thankfully, those types don't exist on the GB, so lemme whip these puppies out!"

"I have a tiny dick. Really tiny. Like, it's practically concave. I really want to talk about it but the Fetish forum is for freaks who want to fuck their moms. I should start a 'Does size matter?' thread on the GB. I mean, it is a pretty general topic, and I'll bet nobody has ever asked that question on here before."

"I don't know how to use Tumblr and I've got to put all these GIFs somewhere so I'll just vomit them all over the GB!!1!!1!"

Of course, the ideal solution would be to round up all the dipshits and just gas them. But that's never going to happen.

Again, I am not saying "we should have a lounge and a political board." I am saying that these things exist, and I think that a light re-shuffling of how the boards are organized could be beneficial.

And I disagree that the GB doesn't maintain its unique value. There's a reason you always see a "Misc." or "Other" category. There's plenty to talk about that doesn't fit into the main forum categories: non-pol current events, non-sexual hobbies, philosophy, religion, technology, clothes, travel, people. A lot of the moderated topic boards that we take for granted were originally GB spinoffs - I believe Queersetti said the same pearl-clutching happened when the LGBT board became a thing. What will always be special about the GB is a) that it's unmoderated and b) the people, the latter of which is its own sticky wicket.

Like I said, they can leave any time....GB lounge is close by and free of me.

I don't even go there to post the nice shit, just like I don't bother the PG.... because you all fucking hate me.

Settle down? You mean stop posting ?

I don't facebook.

It was a joke, because everyone on Facebook is crazy.

I mean stop reading every post as an opportunity to continue your crusade against democrats and SJWs or whomever you feel like raging against. Stop thinking that winning = having the last word and start valuing your own time and energy. Stop saying the the same things to the same people and challenge yourself to add something new, valuable, and different to the conversation (these are things we all should be doing, btw - I'm addressing myself as much as I'm addressing you. Well, way less, but you catch my drift).

And finally (you should be able to appreciate this :D) stop playing the victim and pretending everyone hates you. If you put on your best pair of fluffy pyjamas and posted your dog pics in the pet thread on the lounge, you would be welcomed with open arms. Humanity inspires humanity. We like to connect. You are not alone.

You're trying to suck all the fun out of this! :(

The case:

  • It doesn't get a ton of activity now so moving it wouldn't be that disruptive.
  • It never really made sense to have it on the same level as the other main forums, anyway. Reading the list was always kind of like "one of these things is not like the other ones..."
  • I understand the intention of creating it in the first place was to reduce the volume of political threads on the GB. This will always be cyclical, but I think having it as a sub of the GB would make it more effective in achieving that based on how we've seen the GBL make it easier for people to jump between boards. Part of the reason people don't post there is because it doesn't get as much attention and humans are needy and fragile - having the lil window into political land from the high-traffic GB would help a lot with visibility for those who want it while keeping it limited for those who don't.
  • I think it strengthens the logical distinction between GB and the lounge. GB classic is what it's always been: pure unmoderated garbage-y goodness. Anything* goes. GBLite is the moderated version with less trolls, politics, and flaming. Poli board is for obviously political discussions. I'm sure some would still spill on to the GB, but I'd use it if it weren't as out of sight and out of mind.
What do you think?

*almost

I think it would get more people looking in on it if it was a sub of the GB. I don't even think about it right now. I do think about the Lounge because of seeing it at the top of the GB, and I do post there a little. I could see myself posting in a politics subforum a little at times as well. It would be a worthwhile test for a few months, IMO.

It's always a fun day when Phelia comes down from her penthouse to call us all idiots, racists and homophobes. :)

I posted a few times over there but decided the girl named Chloe had laid waste to every liberal meme she encountered and had taken all of the available scalps for herself.

Still having trouble figuring out who here is actually a girl, I see.

One reason Laurel gave for wanting a Politics board is that she thought non-GBers who wanted to talk about politics were reluctant to come in here. And there are some decent posters over there who aren't GBers (or are infrequent GBers); besides which it seems to me that traffic over there has been up a little since January 20.

The main problem with a stand-alone Poltiics board is that I don't know that there are a lot of folks here who really do a lot of posting in more than one forum section -- which is why all of them got their own "lounges" instead of having to come to the GB for random chitchat. The Politics board is nobody's Lit "home," so it's always going to be a bit of an orphan.

Safe spaces for all!!!!

Maybe a copy and paste forum for king?

A Gif forum for zumi?

A man pretending to be a woman thread for Pook?

A " I'm not posting in a political forum" for Ish and eyer?

A boring troll forum for Luk?

A odd ball font forum for trysail?

A asshole forum for me?

Will all want diversity...... unless it's different.

Just celebrating International Women's Day the best way I know how: murdering dreams and boners.

In that spirit, you are just as annoying as BotanyBoy. I'd command you to treat yourself to a xanax-a-rita before each posting spree, but I think being fucked up makes you post even more!! I'm going to infect both of your computers with malware that plagues each GB page refresh with a 5 min delay :D

Yep, that's what guided my thinking. Even just being able to see one recently updated thread gets me to click into the GBL about 2-3 times per visit. I never go to the political board because I just don't think about it, and I'm probably in the minority of posters with a genuine interest in a fair portion of the political threads. And when I start one, I'm admittedly spoilin' for a fight (a rousing and spirited transaction of ideas, if you will), so I don't want it to be in a ghost town.

I have noticed you don't really care about anyone's ideas but your own. :)

That's interesting, and I think it would hold true with existing posters, particularly those who may have wandered into the GB not knowing what to expect :)

That said, I think you could argue that net-new posters interested in discussing politics would identify the GB as its logical home above any of the other top-level forums. Have you noticed whether the other active poli board posters tend to be true n00bs, or posters who've wandered in from other boards?

It's not a perfect fit, but as Pookie said, I'd be interested to see how it performed as a test. BUT above all, I trust in La Laurelle.

This is all purely academic, of course.

I see your point.

So how about leaving the current politics forum where it is and do a trial on a subbie one in the GB. It can always later be merged together if the subbie doesn't work out.

Oh Vat. I'm neither. You're just confused, as ever.

That's not the urban dictionary definition I remember. The angry dragon I remember involves making a girl squirt cum out of her nose. But then, we can't all be scientists.

When I first joined i made a thread in the political board. Handful replies then dead.

i came to GB and asked why does everyone post politics in the GB not their section; i got ignored, then I got told off.

So here i am.

But thing is, i do think, if ALL political..... umm... how'd you call us? fruitcakes? Move to another forum, chances are this GB will become slow (mello 69 and super suprise excluded, of course).

I feel the lounge was created just for that, so you're a bit late on this recurring idea. And I think it was so for the same reason I post in the above parag.

I'd first promote the idea of penalizing trolling, and alts.

start valuing your own time and energy.

I'm just hanging out till I'm not.

Only real debate left in my life is do I wait for cancer?

Or do I just merc it up like a free man until my luck runs out.....

Because this 1st world life is fucking boring as shit, I feel like a god damn cow chewing it's cud living here. It would piss quit a few people off and ruin more than a couple folks month/year even if I just set it all on fire, packed my shit and left.

Fuck...

Stop saying the the same things to the same people and challenge yourself to add something new, valuable, and different to the conversation.

That would be nice. I hope someone posts an interesting thread soon.

And finally (you should be able to appreciate this :D) stop playing the victim and pretending everyone hates you.

I'm not a victim and I don't feel or try to pretend to be one.

But I'm fully aware of which lunch table I sit at.

I am with Phelia on this.

If it can't be a sub board, then we could man the torpedoes :D
