In a frenzied effort to stop truthful information from being divulged about the Trump administration, press secretary Scott Spicer called his staff into his office and with legal counsel behind him, ordered his staff to produce their government issued and private cell phones for inspection. He wanted to verify they were not the source of leaks to the media about the chaotic situation taking place at the White House.
He also warned them about using encrypted messaging software such as Signal or Confide which violate the Federal Records Act, something Republican lawmakers use every day to hide their activities.
When finished with his inspection, he asked the staff not to leak information to the press about the meeting or the inspection or their efforts to stop truthful information from getting out.
The staff promptly informed the press about the meeting and inspection.
