It seems kind of easy but at the end of the trial the judge tells you what the legal matters are pertinent to the case and you must decide on those factors alone. It doesn't matter who is the biggest evil jerk or who is the most sympathetic.

Nuance lurks all around.

But that's neither here nor there. The responsibility I'm facing has little to do with crime and punishment, but it has immense consequences for those involved.

As one who has never served on a jury, I would be interested in your experience. Given the passions and biases, not to mention outright ignorance of law suffered by most people, did you find that your fellow jurors took that legal responsibility seriously and actually tried to apply the law as the judge instructed, or did you or other jurors struggle to keep one or more renegades under control?

Actually, I don't have any wisdom on the topic. I wasn't being coy. I could not think of a time when I had that kind of responsibility and learned a major life lesson as a result. I guess I am fortunate to have been a beneficiary of circumstances rather than a victim.
