Doomsday Clock Moves 30 Seconds Closer to Midnight Thanks to Trump

It's 2 1/2 minutes until midnight now. This symbolic clock represents when humanity will destroy the world. Of course, it's all because of Trump.

Now, I must admit I was a bit taken aback by who announced it. Lawrence Krauss, a well respected physicist by the atheist community, is a Chair Member for whatever this group actually is. I'm surprised because he harps on the difficult mathematics it takes to understand the complexity of the universe yet here we see him arbitrarily ticking down time until the end of the world. That's just silly.

So, this is the second thing Lawrence sucks at - portraying propaganda from an authoritarian point of view. The other thing he sucks at is debating. He is a genius, but his debates are cringeworthy.

Okay, Dr. Krauss, it's time to go back to writing Best Selling books. No, actually, go back to finding the breakthrough for what "Nothing" is, prior to the Big Bang. That's way more helpful than working on your arbitrary clock which means literally nothing.

I know. I'm just surprised that he's involved with it now. I vaguely remember hearing about this clock many years ago, but I had completely forgotten about it until now.

But when it comes to fear mongering, this takes the cake.

First off you write this like one guy gets to decide the whole thing. Its done with wide range of leading minds.

Second off they give reasons for each move they do. This time because Trump wants to go back to an arms race and not only that have others join in to. Note: The reason America doesn't want others to get nuclear weapons is because with them they are less depended on USA for defense. Those who take such American nuclear defense, enter America's shield. In turn making them depended on America. Diplomacy its confusing and is all long game

Third, its also due to Trump's Administration disbelief over science consensus. Global warming only exists in the winter, once summer comes its gone. Am in Canada and right now its 2 degrees Celsius.

All in all the Doomsday Clock is just warning piece by scientific community over what you should be worried about.

P.S This in fact follows the yearly trend of warnings lately due to modernization of nuclear arsenals

Right. It's not ONE MAN who made the decision to move the hand closer to midnight. It is, however, one man who's using his name as an authority figure to spew propaganda and fear mongering.

The article said that this was the first time the clock had only moved by 30 seconds. Well, no fucking duh! There's only 3 minutes remaining. Each of these numbers are 100% arbitrary and the closer it gets to midnight, the LESS it seems to matter.

In other words, it's a really bad way to communicate to the public that something is actually worsening. What's next? Another 30 second move? A 15 second move. What happens when we're at 11:59pm and the world hasn't changed?

My points were 1. The clock is stupid and I'm surprised Dr. Krauss is involved, and 2. Dr. Krauss is using this to scare people about Trump. It's an obvious political move.

Besides, of course the end of the world is coming. Humans are living well into their 90s-100s. That sucks up valuable resources. Procreation is not slowing down, either.

Why is nobody willing to accept that these problems are real? People need to die, people need to stop mindlessly having children, and "Doomsday" is probably closer than ever because technology is more advsnced than ever. Modern medicine is keeping people alive even if they have an illness or condition which should lead to an early death.

I know why this is a taboo subject. Liberals are pussies and only think with their emotions, and Conservatives are religious and believe that god is in control. And we treat these political parties like football teams. Tribalism.

Okay, the whole thing is called The Doomsday Clock. No shit its propaganda tool using scare tactics to make people aware of issues. Its designed to be that and works. Just today, saw post on a new weapon called Satan 2 (yes thats its real name), which Russia claims single missile can wipe out France. Seems like they getting people aware that world is still facing issues that need to be addres.

To your two points.

Dr. Krauss is involved because hes leading mind and odds are he wanted to do the address, because he believed in it. He is a human being and can have an opinion based on how he sees the world. You don't have to agree with it but at same time mocking man for it is just outright disrespectful.

They mention Trump, because he wants to RESTART THE ARMS RACE. You know the arms race that proudly presents MAD. At the same time he wants more nations to have there own nuclear arsenals. These Trump's own words no distortion, no taking them out of context. Japanese nationalists are talking about actually rearming, and Japan does have the technology (like most western nations do) to make a nuke. Which will add third nuclear power fighting in East Asia and also be clear sign of Trump dismantling American military projection power

World population is going to decline soon. Yes when people say soon on these terms they are talking about 50-75 years but it will be going down. Already western world is seeing population growth rates in negative once immigration is taken out of charts. Going back to Japan, there population is dying, China is heading for population crash, Europe is slowly dying off and so on. I thought we got over these issues in the 70s and before that the 50s and before that Thomas Malthus.

How about this go back to high school and brush up on your social studies, after that take some post-WW2 history classes that focus on things besides wars.

It will not be next week or the month after, but soon we will have crossed the threshold of of CO2 saturation and the oceans will not be able to recover, the permafrost will release the methane it has sequestered and Global Warming and climate change will prevent the production of food in sufficient quantities to feed the population of the world, there will be riots, wars and chaos.
