Three things out of the way right away:
1) I'm not talking about stories posted on literotica
2) I'm not talking about erotic stories
3) By "underage" I mean "less than 18 years old", in other owrds teenagers of 16-17 years.
So here's a question for you: Is is acceptable to mention the presense of sex in lives of the teenagers in non-erotic novels?
Because most people do that. So if we have a character who is 16 or 17, would it be frowned upon to mention that he actually has a sexual encounter with his girlfriend as part of the story?
If you are writing a story about realistic high schoolers, it would be quite unnatural for them to not actually discuss sex a lot, and for all of them to be virgins.
I know it's been done in the past in movies and books - where 16 year old guys and girls would be openly depicted watching porn, masturbating and making out, having sex. Naturally, without detailed depictions, but still.
And in some settings (Like Game of Thrones and other medieval themes) it's even quite expectable, because it's natural to get married WAY before 18 years old.
What do you think about that?
How acceptable this in mainstream literature? Or do you think that even there sex before 18 is a no-go?
