Has Facebook locked your acct. & asked for your drivers license id yet?

I will never do "real" with facebook, since I have no desire for any of its "social" offerings, and for the fact that virtually all the billions they make derives from using and selling their users' personal information - and they collect, record, and use/sell literally every bit of info every person submits on facebook.

The first client who wanted me to create a business Page, I simply did it through their account, using their username and password. Which is against facebook rules. In an attempt to not jeopardize my client, I created a fake facebook account and made it an editor of the client's Page. That worked fine for a while, and I've used that fake account to be the editor of a number of other clients' Pages since - that is, until last week when facebook locked my fake account and asked for ID. I'm at least halfway confident I can come up with ID that will fool them, but I've forgotten what fake birthday I gave them to sign up for the fake account :D. So, I'm toying with the thought of creating another fake account with fake ID ready.

I've thought about creating a facebook account in my real name for client-servicing purposes and totally locking it down to the public, but I really don't want to. In the meantime, I make sure clients understand that me using their usernames and passwords to service their Pages is against facebook rules - not one of them cares. For now, using Tor and turning off alarms and alerts in client accounts seems to be working fine.

facebook maintains it insists on their users being real so that civility is more guaranteed on facebook, that non-anonymity best polices behavior, that everyone is confident they're interacting with other real people. That's nice. But the truth is without real information on real people, facebook couldn't use and sell that personal information to make the billions it does.

I tried making an instagram account some time ago. The account was locked right away, and they wouldn't unlock it without me emailing them a picture of my face along with a written string of numbers they sent me. No thanks. I can live without it.

Oh yeah and after coming to the conclusion that there aren't any real people working there I just started another page. If it wasn't for friends 2700 miles away I'd wrap it up and leave. As it was, I spent the 4 months of the campaign off the damn place.

:D

I'll try to keep your melodramatics in mind with regards to digitally submitting a fake ID to facebook.

That's what I told her to do. :)

Their explanation is that it's a voluntary site. You can abide by the rules the management installs or leave.

Where have you heard that before? :)

Lit has never jailed me.

It hasn't even so much as given me a ticket...
