So that's why my guts clench and why I worry, because they're at risk and they're being victimized.
Who is they and how are they being victimized?
Who is victimizing them?

Well, that's why I'm open to discussing this issue with you:
1.Not only because you were kind to me lately and when I started, but also because I never saw you engage or encourage the pattern of harassment that those progressive turds engage in.
I have no respect for them; I respect you
2.Unfortunately, I'm still biased because I caught a period of the GB where I've seen Ann behave well and she was never mean to me. Moreover, given my own experiences and what I've seen around me too, I harbour quite a bit of contempt for the progressives.
That's why I'll continue to be judgmental of and interfere in the progressives soup like an annoying fly (I love it when they get frustrated and pissed off despite pretending to have the upper hand),
- but I decided to no longer interfere between you and Ann like I did before.
Nevertheless, I've taken what you said on board and I'll be vigilant about such issues. It's possible that I will change my mind; hell, I already changed my views on many things around here

YES! Phil getting the chop is great news!
If you haven't read all of Tana French, do it, "The Trespasser" just came out and it should be in your head. *nods*
Job from "Banshee" is one of the best fictional creations evah.
Let's see... good stuff we've been watching... Oh - "Braindead" is a now terribly relevant satire of American politics. Hoping they renew it. It is... actually really funny though it doesn't sound like it - the theory is that alien bugs have eaten people's brains (or at least half) and Tony Shalhoub is the absolute best. (I know this is a hard sell, but it's really worth it. Can't explain. Must be experienced.)
"Timeless" is a cool little bit of historical trivia gathering where there's folks attempting to maintain the timeline and folks attempting to keep it as it is -which means stuff like 'Make sure Lincoln gets shot in the head as per history.' Thus leading into a several-day 'discussion' between Ulaven and I as to whether or not given a time machine and a gun... do either of us shoot Trump? The problem is, Mike Pence is worse. So make sure he isn't born? Hmmmm...
I'm sure the right answer somehow is 'anybody who is not a white male' and 'white male' but oddly enough, the news does actually show that sometimes it is in fact a white male doing the bad thing and a non-white non-male getting the bad thing done.
So here's something from today:
Indigenous Activist Zip-Tied & Locked in Dog Kennel for 6 Hours for Protesting Dakota Access Pipeline
I'm entirely open to white males being victimized, it happens and it happens a lot. It just doesn't happen exactly like this... a lot.
Seems to happen to other people though.

I'm answering here because I don't want to make the other thread about me.
Reci, do I need to read The Secret Place first or is it stand alone?
Oh god I'm excited. Especially now I know they're set in Ireland! I think I'll order the first one and start from the top!The books are in order:
In The Woods
The Likeness
Broken Harbor
The Secret Place
The Trespasser
The way the books work are that the books are told from the first person view of a Dublin murder detective. So the first narrator is Adam Ryan and his partner is Cassie Maddox. Then the next book is Cassie Maddox narrating. The first two books, In The Woods and The Likeness ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ROCK because... of Cassie Maddox. The next two suffer due to the lack of Cassie Maddox, frankly.
The Trespasser has another kickass and complicated female detective narrating and she's not Cassie, but damn is she good and I love her in that complicated gotta give it to the girl way.
She's still an amazing author no matter what story she is telling, but the lack of Cassie Maddox means lack of kickass banter in some ways.
So ratings for the books in my opinion
In The Woods - 10
The Likeness - 10
Broken Harbor - 7
The Secret Place - 7
The Trespasser - 10
So the reason to burn through them all in order, which will take you, like... a week? Then a few more weeks to burn through the first two and the last again... the narrated versions on Audible are great too. They're all good books and she has a talent for accurate psychological portrayals, complicated plotting and 'what the fuck is going on here?' for that added first-person hand-cam lack of narrator and certainty.
I have to give "The Trespasser" a 10 for the most complicatedly and awesomely plotted book I may have ever heard (twice)
Tana French is excellent at poetry and prose, hard to find. If the first few pages of "In The Woods" are not entrancing, someone's dead inside.
Broken Harbor and The Secret Place are still great books, but don't rise to the complexity of the first two and the last and the protagonists are well built but NOT CASSIE MADDOX (yes, I'm bitter.)
BUT... the reason to go through all of them is that this is the same murder squad the entire way through, and the characters are continuous and they change through time.
You can read each book alone and it will stand alone, though.
*hops up and down* I LOVE HER!
OH MY GOD YOU FUCKING RACIST!!!
LMFAO....
In all seriousness though that sound like a major asshole government problem....seems to me skin color has fuck all to do with it.

YES! YES! YES!
I think you will love them. I can't imagine that you wouldn't... that just does not match reality.
At least for me, I love the Audible versions with the accents because... I always thought Slainte was actually 'slaynt' - it's been a fabulous education for an American. She is an amazing author. The things I learn. Plus I now have ordered pear cider because who knew such things existed?
Back the fuck up! I've read number one!
I fucking love pear cider. I also like strawberry & lime cider which is surprisingly lovely.
Not to mention that as a white man, my odds of being shot to death during a traffic stop are minuscule no matter where I'm pulled over.
As a straight white man I'm not going to be discriminated against no matter where I go in the states, your hyperventilating aside BotanyB.
Were I a woman, a minority, or LGBTQ I'd be concerned for my safety a good portion of the time, especially considering the President elect's stirring up the bigots and giving them a voice.
LOL come to SF....
Not to mention about a dozen cities where being white in the wrong neighborhood can get your ass put in the hospital if not killed.
Major Asshole Governments are populated by Major Assholes and the majority of them are white males.
If you do not think that skin color or gender had anything to do with a white man putting a female Native American in a dog kennel in order to 'show her the place that she belongs' and illustrate exactly how Major Assholes see minorities and women...
You are mistaken.
Then I don't care what you call it - but women and minorities happen to have recognized the actual pattern and how about listening to them?
Maybe point out the assholes, call them whatever you want, I don't care. But if one of them does happen to be white and male, in fact a LOT of them, maybe acknowledge the evidence and not decide it's a conspiracy.
Does this proportionally happen to white people in similar circumstances?
I'm gonna go ahead and guess no. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
How about you listen to the actual minorities who know what they're talking about?
What, like, statistics? You'd guess wrong and I've posted proof for YEARS on this site only to be called a racist for it.
None of that makes major asshole is an inherent white male trait.
How much do you want to bet there are minorities and women among those cops??
Minority and female cops have been caught doing corrupt heinous shit JUST like white cops.
I have, and nothing they have shown me has indicated that being white or male makes someone a racist fucking scum bag.
Evidence of WHAT?
The government shitting on them? Yea...happens all the fucking time.
Cops gunning them down?? Yea....happens all the fucking time.
You'd guess wrong and I've posted proof for YEARS on this site only to be called a racist for it.
ANYTHING outside the SWJ narrative = racism, sexism or xenophobia. LOL
OHHHHHH so me being Korean, I'm not an ACTUAL minority anymore...I don't know what it's like.
LMFAO.
The fucking arrogance of the uppity white liburhul....
Oh please white lady, lecture me more about what it's like to deal with racist assholes.
And you can call bullshit all you want I've seen people gunned down in the streets of both SF and Oakland, hell even on the bay bridge.
What, like, statistics?
