For those of us who love Ancient Aliens, the producers created the first ever Alien Convention in Santa Clara, CA, this last weekend and it was a wonderful experience. Did anyone else attend? Are you a believer?

'She stood in tears amid the alien corn.' Ode to a Nightingale

Or is that something different?

In life elsewhere in the universe, yes, very much so; do I believe they come and visit us in their faster-than-light spaceships just so they can jump out from behind bushes at us or have a rummage around in random people's underwear? No.

Sam Scribble, I'm not sure.

beachbum, I am more inclined to Ancient Aliens visiting us in the past and influencing life on earth. But, if they came here long ago, then they have the technology to come, again.

It was truly inspiring to be at a convention full of people, who believe we are not alone in the Universe and much more than that.

.

If they have the technology to cross astronomical distances, they have the technology to completely hide from us and watch, and we wouldn't have a clue.

To me, it's utterly absurd to think that humanity is the only intelligence in the universe (just look at all the other thinking life forms on this planet, is sufficient evidence for me).

When someone can adequately explain crop circles to me, that's when I'll stop wondering if somebody's already out there or not.

Meanwhile, the first trace of "intelligence" that mankind sent to the rest of the universe was what we put in radio waves. Given the drivel you see on people's phones nowadays, I hate to think what an alien might think of us. Depressing, I should think.

Crop circles are explained. Pranks, every one of them. The techniques used are available if you google.

As far as anyone knows, it's simply not possible to travel faster than light, regardless of technology. There are some interesting theories involving wormholes, but not a shred of evidence that they would be traversable. If aliens got here, they traveled here at subluminal speeds, which meant trips take hundreds to millions of years. There's no reason to believe they'd be back and little reason to think they'd come here in the first place. There's simply too many places to go, and if there are so many aliens that they could visit lots of places in a galaxy, let alone a universe, they'd be so widespread it's inconceivable we wouldn't have seen the evidence.

We've yet to pick up a single signal from an alien race. We'd know if we did. Intelligence either creates recognizable patterns (meaningful data always has these) or totally random data (because they discovered and use encryption). Natural signals don't look like either of those things.

Fundamentally, if you believe in aliens that can answer all these objections, they aren't aliens, they're angels or some other supernatural entity. Belief in aliens like this is basically religion without any inconvenient God or moral code to make it annoying. That makes it immediately suspect in my mind.

Electricblue66, according to many of the experts at the Convention, there are friendly aliens and unfriendly aliens, so there is that. The friendly types seem to be incredibly patient, while they wait to see if we will stop warring with each other, find peace and acceptance, and finally join the universe as intelligent, compassionate and loving beings. Honestly, the friendlies are rooting for us all the way.

HandsInTheDark, many crop circles are fake and were made to muddle the information being published. Not ALL crop circles have been debunked. Check out the Roswell rock and corresponding crop circle for a good example.

The works of author Zecharia Sitchin were discussed at length and since I am currently reading the second book in his set of seven, called The Earth Chronicles, I was very interested in additional information about the man from people who had met him. He is an expert on ancient Sumerian civilizations.
