I always have a plan or plans at the strategic level. At the tactical level I practice what's called pattern planning. That is, I have several dozen generic patterns/plans that can implemented at a moments notice. That way when this start to go awry or go totally to shit, I can roll with it.
That sort of tactical freedom is important - it allows me to enjoy what happens, take advantage of unexpected opportunities, and recover quickly when life knocks me on my ass.
I don't think any way - planning or no planning - is better than another except within a given set of circumstances. To me mental, emotional and physical agility are far more valuable.
Especially if masturbation is involved.
