How Much Experience Do You Use?

My graduate school was 180 hours of psychology, addictions, brain trauma, and vocational assessment coursework. I did a 16 week internship with male rape victims (homosexual rapes). I did two (one semester) clinical practicums with the walking wounded at mental health. Plus a career of hospital and legal service.

My fund of experience and training creeps into what I write. And LIT rules ban my extensive knowledge of underage sex abuse and sexual habits. Most of my clients were hookers, lingerie models, dancers, sex offenders, pimps, etc.

So where does your porn philosophy come from?

I'm not quite sure what 'porn philosophy' is. I have many philosophical opinions on various subjects, but not one that is dedicated strictly to pornography. When I write, I try to apply the legal definition of pornography, especially if I have the slightest notion I might be inclined to publish the story.

Taking a brief glance at Lit rules of publication, I would say their rules are based on the legal definition as well, ambiguous as it may be.

Since many writers use the rule of 'writing what you know', one might be inclined to make the assumption that they have some kind of personal knowledge on the subjects they choose to write about. But, when asked to reveal their level of experience in a given topic, most adamantly insist they have no personal experience in any of the genres they post to. (They also deny any characters in their stories are real people.) Given that, I suppose that is what separates fiction from non-fiction.

I don't believe I have seen a non-fiction selection on Lit, but I may have simply overlooked it since what I write is strictly fiction. It seems a bit of a shame since I would definitely classify any actual representation of your studies as such. I'm sure you have some fascinating stories to tell.
