Interesting. I thought that utilities had to have back-ups spinning in order to take up the load should wind towers be shut down due to high winds.

We don't have wind turbines here in Alaska on the scale that they are used in many other places. And very few are tied to the railbelt electric grid. Most are village specific or tied to an autonomous micro-grid.

SA has no internal grid, so it was the pinching from elsewhere that took the turbines offline with their shutoffs from voltage spikes by taking the external power. I'm highly interested in seeing how the inquest goes (unfortunately in a year or two) for the results of future avoidance.

See, i'm in an apartment with surprisingly thick n' insulated walls. My neighbs occasionally throw loud parties on the weekends. I hear their carousing from outside and in the foyer/stairwell, but as soon as I get in my door, everything is shockingly muted.

I grew up in the 80/90 split... I got the Giants/Lakers/Pens/9ers.

I didnt do badly... but when I was Stateside, my Australian teams were great (Which I couldnt see) and the american teams were, um, less than so.
