My mom recently went 12 days without pooping.

This isn't a joke, nor is it some kind of parody thread.

Now that we've established that, should I be worried about her? Her bowels have always been a little irregular, but 12 days seems ridiculous. The thought makes me feel like I'm going to implode.

Should I make her go to the doctor or something?

Did you manage to go past the parental code and log into Lit. again?
With you, it's either boobs or pooping.

Does her doctor's office have a line you can call to speak with a nurse? I would start there.

Some things they will likely want to know:

How well is she eating? (Amount)
Has her diet changed recently?
Is she drinking enough fluids?
What medications is she on?
What is a usual amount of time between BMs for her?
Is she in any pain or discomfort?
Has she taken any laxatives or stool softeners?

Hope it gets resolved quickly. :)

This all happened like a month ago, and she's back to her regular schedule. She's very infrequent, and always has been. Maybe twice a week?

Anyway, thanks. She doesn't seem to think it's a big deal, and getting her to go to the doctor is nearly impossible. She has stated she should be drinking more fluids. I just wanted to make sure this kind of stuff can't kill someone. I seriously felt kind of nauseous when she told me about it.

You are such a dumbass..... I know you are not serious but OMG as an EMT WTF???????

Medical advice on Lit. It's like getting legal advice from a career felon.

I would strongly suggest that she keep track on a calendar, for her doctor's information, and your peace of mind. And i would call the doctor's office anyway, just to touch base with them and get their feedback.

Sorry you are dealing with a reluctant patient. Sounds like you are going to have to get tough. You can do it. :)

She does keep track, that's how she knew exactly how many days it was.

Getting her to go to the doctor is another thing entirely. It's almost impossible. She goes to all her woman checkups and stuff, but to make an appointment because she might be sick or something - no chance.

Your excuses are going to be of little comfort when you have to call 911 because she should have gone and you didn't make her. You're a grownup. Call the nurse, or make her go.

My mother had a golfball size cyst in her tract. She wound up dying even though it was NOT cancer.

I had to see my mother with a tube up her butt, being cleaned by nurses. I am just glad she wasn't totally aware of how bad she was, Gimp. Her bowel perforated and she died.

This hits way to close to home.

I think you're confused. Just because the internet is full of shit doesn't mean anyone actually knows shit.
