...would you rather live in Russia or the United States?

I'm saying you were comfortable enough to live in a decent home and live well, all other things being equal.

The way the US is going, I just want out. Not because of one election or something petty, but the longterm trend. I believe it will eventually become a race war the way its going.

There are other countries better than Russia if you want to just GTFO.

South America has some pretty sweet spots.

Plus learning Spanish is way easier than Russian.

But I could get on board with Russia.....but I'm sticking with Peru.

Would you rather live in Russia or Saudi Arabia?

The Democrats say that Russia is "our enemy." That its somehow a "bad place" or even a "dictatorship" despite the fact that it holds reasonably fair elections on a regular basis, there is more or less freedom of political association, speech, etc. Despite the fact that if you asked most Russians if Russia is a democracy they would say it is. Its never done anything to the US since the end of the USSR. The Democrats and their media friends (and their new allies among the neo-con right) say Russia is the "worst threat" to the US and basically the Satan of the post-modern world.

on the other hand, the Clintons are closely tied to the Saudi royal family, and the Democrats refuse to mention radical Islam as even being a problem. Yet the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis. Saudis fund radical madrassas that are breeding grounds for terrorists throughout the world. And domestically two countries couldn't be more different culturally I wouldn't think that the US and Saudi Arabia. Yet, Democrats and the media say their our our ally and good guys.

So, which country would you rather live in if you had to pick one?

The United States, though some old friends are living and working there.
I also have friends who came here as refugees.

The area I last visited in Russia is currently plagued with anthrax. No thank you.

But Russia looks so cold. Are there any warmer enemy climates I can pick?

No one can live happily in a nation that does not enjoy the rule of law. And ignoring the various problems the US suffers, it has the rule of law, so, you would be happier here, all other things equal.

It would be more accurate to say that the law rules us in America today.

Also there is an entire layer of politicians and bureaucrats who are clearly without question above the rule of law.

No no no. Don't you remember four years ago when Obama reminded Romney that the Cold War was over and Russia and the U.S. were best BFFs?

Russia is such a contradiction…

Most laypeople that I met were quite open-minded and open about their views (in contrast to the typical brittish PCnness). Plus such a remarkable culture and spirituality…
On the other hand, they said that the system is quite corrupt and still oppressive as far as key admin. and political positions are concerned. Plus shitty weather.

But it seems like their politicians and massmedia learned their lessons from the West and their PR is getting better and better. Plus Putin is quite charismatic too.

I am living comfortably.

I don't speak Russian. I don't want to learn it.

I'm up in the hills in red flyover country, so most of the insanity is far, far away from me.

I'm surrounded by rednecks too, at the moment.:(
But I guess one gets complacent, and as far as one lives comfortably, everything goes. Plus I'm too old and jaded to run after some pipe dream.

I greatly enjoyed living in Greece years ago. The weather was great. I assume that's the same, although from what I read other things have changed for the worse.

I can barely get a good taco in Sweden. What are the odds of finding one in Russia?

1.It's a country. Slightly north of Germany. In Europe.

2.The land of IKEA, blondes (not really) and once (but not anymore) hardcore socialism.

1.I know where it is..

2.Oh, now I get the analogy.

1. Good. it's where I live. Most of the time.

2. What analogy? It's a fact. Social Democratic model state up until the early 90's, and agressively deregulated and privatized ever since.

Wow, so interesting to see people other than the typical GB demographics (americans or brits. who lived in their own country for most of their life) on the board.
But I assume that you're american or brittish, because your written english skills suggest that.
