I have been digesting this since Thursday. Missing a period at my age is a pretty big deal with so many things it could be. In my case, it turns out I am pregnant. My younger daughter is 13, my oldest is in college. He said the baby is due in early March. I will be 44 by then. While wondering how I will cope, I am also excited.

New beginnings come in all forms. Best of everything to you and yours. :)

My wife and her brother came along after their sibs were grown. Their Ma was forty-something, and it worked out well.

That said, my best friends Ma had two kids about the time we graduated high school, but they weren't daddy's babies, Ma and Pa took up swinging and Ma got pregnant.

How frightening and exciting all at the same time. Every once in a while I wish to have my uterus replaced (yes I know that is not a thing) I wish you a healthy happy pregnancy!

There's lots of risk involved in a pregnancy at this age. Make sure you do all the preliminary genetic tests, just to be on the safe side.

Congratulations, though. Stay safe.

We hope for the best, but no genetic testing. Abortion is wrong every time and not open to consideration for us. You can disagree if you want to be wrong.

Good luck on your high risk pregnancy! I hear it is riskier every year over 35. Poor baby.

Congratulations first of all. Secondly, make sure you take good care of yourself. A friend of mine's wife just had a baby at 39. She had to deliver the baby at 26 weeks. She had been suffering from preclampsia for the past few weeks. The final straw was when she had issues with certain enzymes in her liver. They had to deliver the baby or risk her health and that of the baby.

First off: yes, 43 is higher-risk compared to younger ages, but you still have a pretty good chance of having a healthy baby so don't stress out about it. One of my relatives recently had a very healthy baby at that age.

Like Rainshine suggests, even if you would not consider abortion as an option, there are reasons to consider testing. If your baby does have a genetic condition that requires care, testing can give you advance notice so you have time to make arrangements.

(I also appreciate that some people would prefer not to know in advance, or have other reasons for not getting genetic testing. This is a very personal decision and it's entirely your call. I just mention that angle in case you hadn't considered it.)

No one said anything about abortion. I'm simply suggesting that genetic tests can help solve many congenital defects by rooting it out in its early stages. Even pregnant young women do that. I dunno if it's religion related, but I think you should consider it either way. There shouldn't be any compromises during a pregnancy.

:)

I have that effect on women. . .

Congratulations!! How exciting. It doesnt sound like you were planning this, so it must be a surprise, but a wonderful surprise nonetheless. How have the other kids reacted? Is hubby excited? My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for some time.

Hubby is excited. My college age daughter acts embarrassed, the other two seem good with it.

Congratulations on this new blessing in your life. Your oldest may not be willing to think of her parents as sexual creatures, but when my daughter acts "grossed out" by our affection we tell her that we hope that she has a passionate marriage when her kids are old enough to be grossed out :). You are also showing your children that a new life is to be cherished and protected in spite of whatever obstacles may come along. That is a lesson that they won't forget if they ever find themselves faced with a similar choice.

Best of luck with your pregnancy and many blessings to your family!

My 47 year old sister was born after my Mom's 40th birthday, they considered her a gift.

Another friend of mine got pregnant at 42, no issues. I would say really listen to your doctor.

We were 40 when we had our last child. I had two "friends" that told me they would fix that problem... Needless to say they are no longer friends. Good luck to you.

Don't worry about it. I figure if you aren't so old by the time the kid gets out of college that he/she will be changing YOUR diapers, it's all good.
