EU vote tomorrow. the most important day in the history of England?

...
Oh, that's fine. I was talking about the "I want my vote back!" crowd, which seems to be getting louder by the hour.

I have been invited to sign several petitions today. Here are two as a sample. My comments in square brackets:

1. Change the referendum so that a two-thirds majority is necessary. [Sorry! You lost.]

2. Insist that Johnson, Gove and Farage stick to their promise to spend £350 million a week on the National Health Service. [Sorry! That wasn't a pledge or promise. It was a statement that we could do that with the money we might save by not being in the EU. BUT - those three are not the Government. Only the Government can change how much is spent on the NHS, and the current Government has years before a General Election. Even after the next election, Johnson, Gove and Farage are not going to be the Government. Even major political parties' promises made before an election are often ditched once in power, so a half-promise which wasn't actually made, by people who will never be a government was and is worthless.]

I wish the Brits had conducted reliable exit polling on this one. Would be interesting to know how men voted vs. how women voted, for example. And why they voted the way they did, etc.

Even the much quoted figures of young versus old voting patterns are only from a sample poll.

The voting process is secret and anonymous. People can, and do, lie to exit polls.

People can, and do, lie in exit polling, but we use them in the US a lot, and they're considered fairly accurate. Better than nothing.

I'd also be interested to know why London (whose population makes 12.5% of England, apparently) voted so overwhelmingly for.

Meaning that, if you do the math, the balance for those outside London tilted clearly towards an "against".

What were the reasons for such discrepancy?

You don't like reality? It doesn't matter which way you voted.

No one can change the result of the referendum. The rules were set and known before we voted. It is pointless to start a petition asking for the rules to be changed now.

No one but the government can change the funding of the NHS. That's why Liberal Democrats used to promise to change the world. They knew they'd never be a government. The coalition meant they had to ditch some of their promises.

Farage could promise anything because he knows he will NEVER be Prime Minister.

We have to live with the result whether we like it or not.

Farage was and is a cunt. I would NEVER vote for him.

well since he lacks the spine to stand as a councillor or MP, you dont really get brownie points for that, also unless ypu live in the area he would stand for, if he had the nerve, it is also a vacuous statement.

how the fuck did people fall for his retoric?

Ho Hum. let just sit back and laugh as the BNP UKIP voter realise the scale of their own indidual fuck up, oh hang about ... by that stage England PLC (everyone else having pissed off) will be well screwed, by that time Gove, Farage and Johnson will be still selling interviews to the Times.

Laugh? i could fucking cry.

I don't get this guy.
Is he doing the Fata Morgana thing (swearing but not really)
or is he really angry and serious about his swearing?

He is really angry. Many people in the UK are.

The referendum divided people and produced hatred.

We have to live with the result. Whichever way it went half the country was going to be disappointed.

Thank you all for continuing to not quote the troll. :) (For the most part.)

It keeps important topics like this one a little less dumb.

Lawks alordy! As a UK citizen with an Irish passport, for once I find myself accidentally ahead of the game. Anyone with a parent or grandparent who was born in Ireland - and that includes Northern Ireland - is entitled to claim their right to an Irish passport. Slainte ! :D

Thanks.
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic, I really couldn't tell.

Whereas people like Rory and Rob get on my nerves with their attitude, I can't say the same about british posters, tbh. Your guys' future is at stake.

The younger generation?

Locally in Kent many of the younger generation voted Leave. We see too much of the EU fuck-ups on our streets and in our towns.

yes the younger generation.

EU fuck ups? please explain what exactly you mean, since its obviously the driving force behind your vote.

mant people in places such as yorkshire are today waking up to the reality that EU funding will soon cease.

Many farmers are now worying how they can cope in 3 or 5 years time.

Many Pharma (SIC) companies are now unsure what exactly the position will be about medicine licencing. Many in the Pharma industry are considering if its more worth while basing licence issues around a market of 450 million peiople or 50 million.

yep the EU fuck ups keep stacking up.

Oh and for the record, no Im not pissed (as in drunk) but Im gob smacked at the short term attitude of the farage masses.

And how did Yorkshire vote?

Never mind that, please explain the EU fuck ups you refer to.

if you have a late worry about yorkshire have a look into EU grants for previous mining areas.

wales also had a good balance with the EU in terms of payments in / grants retrurned.

any news yet on your EU fuck ups?

No. I'm not going to continue this conversation because you are too angry to make sense.

Just think which county is the closest to Europe.
