The Official Authors' Hangout National Nude Day 2016 Contest Support Thread

get that image of john cleese outta your head.

:D

oops, done it now, have i? ;)

Not John Cleese, more like Yes Minister.

The 'prehistoric' entry was one of my drafts started with vanilla names - John, Mary etc. and changed with find replace. Even after I had hit submit I found two instances of name confusion and had to go to 'pending' and change them.

When the characters are established in their final names I usually get the right name for dialogue. When they are still using the draft names I can put the wrong name to the speech.

i never use simon or james.

i can never write 'simon said' without thinking about the old simon says game. and as for james ... is james' or james's? etc.

I'm not worried about using James. If I use a possessive I'd type James' unless that sounds wrong when spoken.

One of the problems with starting a draft with vanilla names is that the characters sometimes grow into those names. I have too many stories using the same restricted list of simple names.

This contest might be interesting just by how all the glitches the sites got going on affect it.

Have any of you seen a "favorite author" addition on your Recent Activities list today?

Seems broken again.

The ability to see favs had been broken for about 3 weeks.

I tried favoriting myself, then unfavoriting myself, and I could only see the heartbreak symbol (which had been removed for nearly a year, by the way). So it looks like the problem for last month is back.

hmmmm. it's been working for me; but having said that, numbers seemed less than would warrant when compared to the fave authors list values.

It was working for awhile, now I see its stopped again. Last fav on the 16th and for the hell of it I had my wife try to fav me on her account and nothing showed up in the recent activity.

As far as I know the top list is still having them added. But that only helps the 250 authors on it and I know people like to see it in their activity page.

There's also a big glitch going on with people being able to get to the site, its been 'down' for periods of time every day, usually early afternoon for me. If I was in work I probably wouldn't notice, but seeing I'm home recouping I've been on here browsing more.

That's why I made the comment above that I wonder about this contest. I can see a lot of votes being lost because people can't get on the site. I heard there's issues with people who log on through the phone app as well.

read as: perusing donkey porn and chugging my [tiny] dick.

:D

It's a huge bummer if our contest stories get posted and we can see the favorite authors.

I messaged Laurel, hopefully she'll post a note here.

I suggested to fix the issues and delay any new upgrades until after the contest is over.

Well, I'm finally going to enter a contest. The last one was Winter Holidays, 2012, and that was also the last story I posted until a few days ago. I'm only about 1/3 done, and I don't see how I can get it sent in by June 20, but I should still make the final deadline. It has very little sex so far, but will be rectifying that lack soon.

I want to post it in Group Sex, but I fear it will go into Celeb, which is one of the worst places for a contest entry. Nine years ago, I entered the Halloween contest, and the story has one of my highest scores and was otherwise well-received, but still has only 29 votes.

Oh, well. I mostly write for fun anyhow. :)

mebbe a less 'popular' category is a sound tactical move, box? less votes, but high ones, might be better than an incest-fest (incfest?) which might get a shitloada reads and votes.

i'm just wrapping mine up - story that is. not got much of a clue where to put it yet - and i'm still talking about the story, before LC pipes up. :D

i know where it doesn't fit ... anyway, best get the sex done.

These discussions never produce anything but in-fighting. This is the contest support thread, and such arguments do not belong here. If you wish to discuss the way the contests are run, start another thread or find one of the many existing threads on the subject and revive it. If the argument continues here, it will be split off into its own thread or removed entirely, depending upon the content.

I submitted my story last night. It's in E&V, but it could have gone in nocon. Yay, me!

Actually, that's not true. Authors suggest a category and, usually, that category is accepted. However, Laurel has the final say over what goes where. I mentioned I am going to try to post my contest entry in Group Sex, but I expect it to be changed to Celebrity. Assuming that happens, there's nothing I can do about it.

It's true! I've had that happen where Laurel changed the category from the one I picked at publish time.

I've always found her to be generous and fair, so if I felt strongly about the category I wanted for a story, I feel confident I could ask for (and get) a change. The one time it happened, I think I asked for Romance and got EC instead. I just let it stand.

If you can present a good reason, she will change to what you suggested. For my first story about Pauletta, a drag queen in SF, it was posted as TS & TV, rather than Gay Male where I thought it belonged. When I objected it was changed.

However, I am surprised a story was described as Romance and posted as EC. Much more likely would be the other way around, because EC is already such a big category.
