If it's at all reasonable, I prefer driving. It's not that I enjoy driving, but I get to pick my own schedule, I'm not treated like "chattel" and I can more easily bring the things I need/want with me.
Obviously, for many trips, flying is simply the only real option due to the time/distance factors involved (or oceans...oceans mess up driving...)

For me it has to be something I can do bite size and one piece at a time. Motorcycle trip's. I like Combo's they can be put in my cup holder or in my tank bag and they are perfect because if I do drop one it's not hurting anybody or anything.

That depends. On my last vacation, I did not. I brought the cell, but turned it off a lot. And did not check email or facebook except once a day (not quite).
