UK now has one of the worst healthcare systems in the developed world, according to

Almost as funny as the boneheads that whine about government hand-outs to poor folks, while taking the home mortgage deduction on their taxes.

Some things in life are real head-scratchers.

LoonSavage:rolleyes: are the 2 comparable?

Soon you will call DHS to rip bathtubs outa homes, they kill MORE then TERRORISTS

The main problem with the NHS isn't the system itself it's the fact that one third of doctors are fucking useless and don't give a shit about their patients.
Add to that that another third can't speak English so end up giving out the wrong medication or amputating your foot because you have tonsillitis.
That leaves the remaining third to pick up all the slack and do the work of three people.

Then we have the junior doctors that demand more money and fewer hours, despite getting paid more and working less than most other people in the UK.

Saying they need 75,000 more doctors isn't true. They just need 75,000 competent doctors.

All of that is as a direct result of the system. Which is to say that the NHS is fucked. Their personnel are a product of their policies.

It's increasing every year. Do you want it to get worse?

Based on who we are and how we are......Are we tracking to surpass and lead?

Increase is not good enough.

When systems that don't work yeild higher life expactancy for citizens by accident.

My goal is to live longer for myself and my fellow citizen no mater what hand they were dealt in life. I woundn't trade mine in for all the money in the world. Odds on favorite it would be a lesser one.

Crappy health care countries seem to do so. So let's beat them.

Increase life expectancy to cover your social security.

OK, so the goal is to spend a lot of government money, quite wastefully, so you can collect more government money. Excellent, who's going to pay for all of this?

No the goal is increase life expectancy. I want we to live longer. It's called the cost of living on piece of real estate called THIS country.

What Johnny is saying is that when the government puts a gun to your head and extracts from you a portion of your life to benefit the whole, you are not allowed to complain about it if you are attempting to recoup your loss of life. He thinks that if you hate the system you cannot partake in the system, because, you know...

HYPOCRISY!

Don't let the boneheads fool you. Most Americans are on some form of government provided health care (VA, Medicare, Medicaid, Federal/state/county/city health programs, CHIPS, ect.). The only people bitching about government involvement in the payment of their health care are the corporate boot-lickers that milk their employers, without realizing that they are one pink-slip away from going into the very system they profess to despise.

What's really funny, is when the old folks on Lit who are on Medicare and Socialist Security start bitching about government programs.

I've seen this SS/Medicare "logic" before.

Last year I paid a little over 7.3K towards SS. My employer paid the same on my behalf. So lets say over 40 years I will have paid 300K and with my employers addition that come to 600K.

Go ahead and then add in the medicare $ they deduct....

I suspect I will be lucky to see 10% of this back.

So basically the government is borrowing my money, not accounting for time value, and then not even repaying me what I put in??

But this will be a handout? A gift I should be thankful for?

You didn't pay it for YOU. You paid it for your father. Your kids will pay for you.

Well sparky, hate to break this to you but among the first world nations access to, or, for the msot part, quality of, health care has fuck all to do with your life expectancy. It's genetics, life style, and diet.

So tell me sparky, what in the hell is the government going to do about genetics, life style, or diet? And do you really want the government meddling with any one of those?

WTF are you trying to say?

All Brits believe they have a God given right to criticize the NHS.

Any political party which advocated radical reform would be wiped out in any election.

The American model is regarded with contempt in UK as a means for wealthy medicos to screw poorer people.

One of my sisters is a Dr and specialist based in a major hospital in the North of England. She makes about $250,000 per annum and is pretty happy with that. Given her speciality she could quadruple that in the US. How would that improve health outcomes?

Competition in the US health system does not work to produce better health outcomes, because the medical profession has a total control of supply.

Every health system in the first world is significantly 'socialized', including the USA - Get over it.

Well glow plug it does. The third most important factor in longevity is access to health care.

Oh! I hope the glow plug light is still on....... Nicotine and Alcohol is already taxed at a much higher rate already.

Now let me get back on the tractor before I have to wait for that glow plug light to go off.

Not true in the developed nations. Take a look at the list of nations by life expectancy. Japan is #1 and the US #34..............with about 4 years difference separating the two. Then look at the top ten causes of death in those nations (or any nation in between). #1 cause of death in the US is heart disease. Not surprising for a nation that has the largest population of obese people. Further, large segments of the US population are genetically predisposed to heart disease, especially our black population. As for Japan, cancer is #1. You rarely see an obese Japanese outside of the Sumo ring. Further as a population they have the highest incidence of double Fox-O genes (a predictor of longevity) of any of the worlds populations.

The Japanese, generally, have a much healthier diet as compared to the US citizen.

Access to healthcare has very little to do with the difference in the longevity of the two populations.

Wrong again Glow Plug.

Put Heart Disease and Strokes together. US and Japan are Neck N' Neck. Both involve the same problem...... occlusion and starvation to what ever part of the body.

That's not why the British system yeilds longer life expectancy. The British don't even have better hospitals or equipment. What they have is a health dispensing system that covers the footprint of its country. All are covered. In return the tendancy is to access health sooner then later. Catching health issues sooner than later is much more cost effective and yeilds better results. The byproduct is general longevity no matter who you are.

Are you saying preventive care improves quality of life?

I'm sure you have plenty of facts to back up your claim.

it always makes me laugh when Cap'n Disingenuous and DizzyBooby act as if they know more about health care in the UK and/or Canada than Brits and Canadians.

It probably does, but proving it can be difficult. It reminds me of a proposed performance indicator for a mental health team:

"How many emergency admissions to mental hospitals have been prevented this month?"

I had to argue long and hard to get managers to accept that the performance indicator was stupid.
