i have a simple solution to all of the hazzah surrounding the issue of who uses which restroom. my solution is simple and removes all of the issues expressed by either side.

2 simple steps.

step 1 - make all public restrooms just bays of individual use pods. kinda like permanently installed versions of the port-o-lets system you commonly find at most outdoor festivals or gatherings. but just slightly larger.
locations could have like 6 of those side by side with sinks adjacent to that bay for hand washing; much like water fountains are currently. and then perhaps 2 much larger "family/specialty" rooms for wheelchair accessibility and changing diapers and such. this way anybody could use any pod and cut down on potential lines.

step 2 - prosecute anybody who f's with anybody just like you would anywhere else.

with this system, everybody is equal and nobody gets into anybody else's business. and if there is any potential for f'ery, it'd have to be done out in the complete open and in full sight of everybody.

everybody wins, except for the hatemongers who are gonna monger hatred regardless of any viable solution to their perceived problems.

exactly - and have a camera on the rest room (NOT in the cubicles, of course) so anyone thinking of getting up to anything nasty knows there'd be evidence against them. Even employ an attendent to keep the place litter-free, clean and topped up with loo paper. The only reason for the separate loos was the use of urinals - we don't have them in our homes and most of us get along just fine without them. All the segregation is a load of bollocks.

Separate toilets are an essential public service. Without them, where would closeted (married) homosexuals congregate?

No roofs, however, would not be a bad idea - improve the ventilation no end.

Frankly, I don't want shared public toilets - the men's room. Ugh. They usually smell so rank I wouldn't even send my mother-in-law in there and I really really don't get on with my mother-in-law.

Bullshit.

I've had to clean bathrooms before. The women's bathroom is always twice as gnarly as the men's.

I say close down all public bathrooms; turn them into closets or something and then ring all buildings with port-a-potties as a tribute to a country purposely flushing itself down the shitter...

In most bathrooms, someone puts some sort of cabinet over the toilet in order to maximize storage space in a small room that is usually designed as some sort of afterthought. Anyone who has ever knocked something out of that cabinet knows that unless you want a pee-soaked toothbrush or razor, you need to keep the lid down at all times.

yeah, I've worked several bars and restaurants and with out any doubt or any variation, the female restrooms were always FAR more disgusting than the male bathrooms.
At one bar where I worked, the female bartenders would tip more money to whomever would clean the female restroom so that they wouldn't have to.
Once I helped some friends who owned a venue prep it for sale. We did alot of cleaning. However there was a female restroom that, after causing 2 grown men to vomit upon entering it, was dealt with by having the door to that restroom screwed shut and marked with a biohazard warning.

but having the individual pod system, would eliminate the male or female restroom. there would just be restrooms. they would all be the same.
like spoons or chairs or ziploc bags. gender need not be present.

here is a question for people,

when (and this is a legit question, so don't respond with out proof) has there ever been a documented case of a trans person ever committing an assault?

i keep reading about people backpedalling saying, "oh it's not the trans people, it's the sicko's pretending to be trans just so they can sneak into..."

if somebody is a rapist, then they are a rapist, period. trans people go to restrooms to pee and poop.
rapists do nefarious things to rape people. if you are afraid of rapists pretending to be other things, then you must live in fear of everybody and everything, because i'm sure that rapists have "pretended" to be pretty much almost everything in order to prey.
so unless you fear everybody, then this argument is straight BS.

trans people get the crap kicked out of them for just walking down the street. why WHY would a trans person enter into a situation that could endanger them like that.

just like my dark-skinned friends often times would rather ride on a full bladder than stop at night to urinate in small towns in the south. victims of violence tend not to make spectacles.

in summary if you fear or hate rapists, then say that u fear or hate rapists, don't try to besmirch trans people for that. but if you hate trans people, then just say that too. own your hatefullness and bigotry for what it is. hide not behind law or bible. be open with your hate and deal with the lash that comes with that.

I long ago attended Rainbow People's Festivals out in the Western USA wilds, many thousands of people wandering around mostly naked in conifer forests for a week or so. (Northern Rockies in 1974, Southern Rockies in 1978.) The modest need not attend.

Latrine facilities were big open pits. Those of any gender and age needing relief merely hung their naked fronts or rears over the pit and let fly. Any one pit might have a few dozen pissing / shitting at any moment, all out in the open. Seemed to work OK. Yes, attendants were on hand to sift lime into the pits and yes, soapy sanitation / washing stations were nearby.

One quickly becomes desensitized to the scene. Familiarity breeds boredom.

Good question. I'm sure our google-sleuths here can find at least one documented case, which of course requires a massive big-government national potty policy from the glibertarians. "Free to pee, you and me!"

If sexual proclivities were a factor in where to shit, we're going to need more stalls. Someone needs to do the maths on how many that.

I have a solution: find something important to worry about.

These are stupid solutions from the left and the right in search of a nonexistent problem.

Jesus fuck.

I agree with you that this is a nonexistent problem, but it is one entirely of the social conservatives on the right's making. They need some sort of issue to galvanize the "base", and "national potty policy" seems to be the only thing they have left.
