not read the book, so the film was something of a shock to the system. it's deeply troubling.


as for lance, he's got no ground to call anyone out considering his posts - lies, attempted smears, cheap shots at (mainly) female posters, concerted efforts at dogging specific posters (again, female for the most part); in otherwords, ugliness through and through and has never changed since i've been here. I called him out for attacking a girl some years back and since then he's talked a load of crap about me. Since I have him on ignore, I only see his posts if someone quotes him or, occasionally if I do a search to see if I've misssed replying to friends on here I'll see he and AJ, trashy and one or two others frequently slinging insults my way. Do I care? Why would I? They're not the kind of people I like

I know. I'm evil and I must be stopped. I just can't help myself from being a big bad meany, writing post after post full of vitriol and name calling. If I had any sense of shame at all, I'd cry myself to sleep every night.

My aim in life is to reach the end with the scales balanced...no more bad than good. Sometimes it's harder to be 'good' or do no harm, because of things like responsibility, knowing how your bank invests, knowing where your meat comes from, how your house purchases and clothes I can think of so many ways I fail. I wonder what harm my car did, for example, and in a family with even now we have 'only' four meat eating pets, we contribute a lot to environmental pressures.

I think if we can do that we've done quite well. Some days I think if I get through life with out killing a human I've done better than I might have hoped.

I have a 4 stroke outboard motor on my boat because they pollute less than 2 strokers.

But i don't think about killing people.

It is difficult to feel as if you've done good at the end of the day when it comes to that level of consciousness about environmental effects that we have in the world. There are so many variables and so many ways to fail. Trying counts, I think, and you certainly try harder than most to live well in the world.

So far, I've managed not to kill a human, and I find the occasional urges to do so have lessened as I've gotten older.
