The Official Author's Hangout 2016 April Fool's Day Contest Support Thread

Last minute extremely long and placed in the lowest boted category it would qualify in are all edges on their combined its a no doubter.

LC, you may be right, or not. Last year I entered all 6 contests. In 4 out of 6, I submitted on the last day, near, at or even just past the time. In one or two cases, my story posted 2 days past the deadline though where I live it wasn't yet midnight.

I was in little danger of winning any of those. RL work combined with my natural tendency to procrastinate made it impossible to submit earlier. Procrastination greases the wheels for me, but I've lost views and votes that way.

Clearly I need to do an experiment here.

:confused::confused: Hanging? Like suicide? So you're into necrophilia?

Barely legal, cookie-based, necrophillia at that.

There's also some basket weaving and survival-play. When I feel really kinky.

"That's it...now rub that stick against the other one...Yeah, the black stick. Oh, like that. Oooh. Look at those sticks, barely touching, grinding out that spark. That's smoking hot. Now blow, baby. Blow!"

I did'nt understand that narrative paragraph. Explain who this baby is? Black sticks, are those penises? The cheerleader has a penis?

Oh that? That was just an excerpt from my upcoming Girl Scout themed First Time survival-play story: How to Start a Fire...in my Pants!

NOw that that's out of the way, anyone cooking anything for Nude Day?
I'm picking up a very raunchy Southern tale I've had on the shelf, set in Post-Bellum Cajun country. It's kind of like a 19th century Big Easy, only with incest.

Nude Day story written but not yet reviewed or edited: A smorgasbord of group, voyeur, exhibitionism, anal (not GM), bondage, nonconsent, interracial.

I'll be the first to admit that I cheat.

I'll even tell you how I do it.

Girl Scouts.

That's right, Girl Scouts.

I'd heard they were getting progressive, and, boy, are they ever.

You buy enough Samoas and Tag-Alongs, and those little devils will vote on anything.

Well, almost anything. I don't think it's going to work this time. Looks like some of those little brats went and got their reading comprehension merit badges on me. They know shit when they see it now.

It's a shame. I don't know what I'm going to do with all these cookies. I still have Thin Mints left over from my last contest win.

Hey, wait. I know. *shakes cookie box at Laurel*

How many for a green E? Come on, come on....C'mon!

I'll let you know how my attempt to scam the system goes.

I can tell you from, ah, personal experience that the Tagalongs and Thin Mints keep well in the freezer. In fact, I prefer eating these kind of cookies much better after they've been frozen. Not that I have a lot of boxes around the house here or anything mind you.

Hehhe, no sir.

I mean, I would never be party to anything underhanded.

Nope.

Not old Huckie boy.

**whistles innocently**

My unfinished April Fool's is going into Nude Day, looks like. My eighteen year old red-headed, big breasted virgin protagonist hasn't even taken her shirt off yet, so it might take a few more days.

Wish me luck!

Actually, werewolves do better in Non-Human. They have quite a rabid following. :D

There's a terrific werewolf parody in this contest, too, actually.

I'm hoping you are talking about my entry, "an all inclusive werewolf story." I thought that I could write a snarky compilation of all the teen lit stories, and thought my satire was obvious. I was wrong. It's by far my lowest rated story despite having some of the best reaction from those who figure it out.

I was. I liked it a lot.

I could see it scoring low, however. It takes a certain intimacy with the subject matter and genre practices to see it for a satire. Those who don't have that likely see it as just an obvious, cliche-ridden werewolf story.

And among those who "got it", so to speak, many might have been defensive about a perceived attack on a genre of writing they love.

To me, though, it was very entertaining.

About half way done with a second-chance-at-love Mature story with a twist on the Nude Day theme. I tried to shoehorn it into a Fool's Day theme but it resisted, and that's a good thing. The nude day aspect was already in it, so the next contest is a more natural fit.

Ya got any carpetbaggers in your Big Easy tale?

My nude day is done and needs a final editing pass. It's the mother son epic I'd been toying with the plot of for a couple years and it finally grew enough to write.

I think it's my best M/S, but not sure the readers will agree, long way until the real incest starts(lot of PI though) and I am going to fly in the face of what's popular there and one scene is kind of rough which will get it whacked a bit.

MY wife thinks if I knock that scene out it could be a contender, because it wouldn't tick them off(even though it ends HEA)

But its not how it came out and I'm not going to cheapen it for a few points.

You don't have the fan base yet. That's part of the equation.

You don't want a boat load of votes, but need enough steady readers to follow you wherever and help you out.

I can never seem to get enough votes for stories. I guess it's better to have smaller vote counts with people reading and commenting but I just can't seem to hit the magic number. (Or the story get bombed the hell with no hope of recovery.)

Clearly 'novels' at my current readership is not wise. LOL!

Maybe I should just toss caution to the wind and try to write an incest story for Nude Day. That's the big ticket category right? (No way I'm doing Loving Wife, I'm too fragile for that abuse!)

I'm still working my way through yours.

It is massive. A true novel. Twice as long as mine, which was the longest thing I've ever posted here.

Still, I've liked it so far. I feel like I've missed a lot, though. Having never read any of your other stories, really. It's also got enough fantasy to scare away most folks who don't lean that way.

So, in the end, you've got a complicated, epic yarn, predicated on previous stories, featuring supernatural elements, in a category that gives few hints to its, rather niche, nature.

That is a perfect recipe for incredibly low votes. Shame, because, from what I've read, it's really pretty good.

Thank you Beastie. I appreciate the kind words and the extra eyeballs on it! :D I know acquiring an editor would help a lot but doesn't fix writing stuff that doesn't draw a big crowd here. I still think the key is writing in a more popular category. (In addition to having good plot(s)/characters/writing/smut.)

Three sweeps in the last couple of days. Not that they have helped my little story much at all.

May your luck have been better. ;)

Yes, mine was better. Today's sweep took mine from a 4.49 (an interesting number, isn't it? ;)) to a 4.87. Just about the same as the last contest. If I weren't so trusting, I'd probably think that someone was scared of me during the contest voting period.

LATER: Two zap votes just before midnight. :D

That's a great score.

Maybe it's your year, Leo.
