You'd prefer a Ferrari or Bugatti, then ?

I like the McLaren just fine, to be honest it looks great. Bugatti's look god awful and Ferrari's are for men over compensating for there limited intellect or underdeveloped manhoods.

Yeah that looks good.

I wish all these cars were more environmentally friendly though. They all should have an hybrid option.

What surprised me about the F-type is that it is a LOT more environmentally friendly than previous incarnations of sporty cars.
Personally, I'll believe in Electric cars when they travel further that 30 miles on battery and do it a bit quicker, and charge up a damned sight quicker.

TESLA model S can now go around 230-320 miles on one charge. It has a top speed of 155 miles an hour, and it can charge in like ten minutes at a supercharger station.

YOU SHOULD READ UP ON TESLA & some of the other electric car advancements.

Ah, now you rtaise a good point.

Sadly, my local service station only sells petrol (=gas).
The nearest Tesla point is 40-odd miles away.

The time it takes us to come up with technological breakthroughs today, by far surpasses the time it took us last century. We'll achieve full environmental and technological convenience in the near future.

For now just plug it in when you go to bed at night, and 9 hours later you can go 300 miles away.

Today would have been my father's birthday. I wish that we had been closer in recent years. I have some good memories of learning to fly fish and hunt from my teen years and twenties but I wish we'd talked more since I had my daughter.

What is it about minor works in the House (whilst the wife is about) that all-too-often causes serious damage somewhere ?
The Household gods must be placated.

:rose:

I am grateful that I rarely have to talk to my Dad any more. He is charming company but when I was younger and hadn't quite clocked his number, he managed to cheat me out of thousands of pounds  I have got over his taking my money, but I still feel embarrassed about the money he took off other people and hope I never meet them again. I try to keep contact with him minimal for my daughter :) (and her savings in a safe place!)

Ah, the wonders of a decent glue.
Apply to a damaged kitchen chair and await it drying. . .

And costs a mere $80K USD. Or used to. I know, I was salivating over it for a while there...

No, you get everything with the car. Tesla is not a scam, come on HP.

Well, I've seen loads of stuff about electric cars and the most rediculous was that the 'owner' actually hires the whole damned thing.
More recent developments have apparently passed by me.

Oh you're talking about the old EV1 I think that was GM & Toyota, but I could be wrong. I also think that they requisitioned the cars back.

This is a very common practice in the USA. Lease a car for 2 - 4 years, then turn it back in to the dealer and lease another new car, or buy the old one cheap. It's financially attractive for a person who doesn't drive a lot, who keeps up with the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, and who likes to drive a recent model car.

Do they not do this in the UK?

It's not caught on quite as well, I guess. Maybe in the big cities, perhaps, but not in rural England [well, not that I have seen so far].

It isn't such a good deal in the UK unless you are self-employed and can write off some of the cost, including maintenance, against taxes. The end payment is typically much larger than the cost of a similar model secondhand.

We used to have large company car fleets which provided the employee with a car as part of their salary package but since the mid 1980s the taxman has made a company car financially unattractive unless you do a high business mileage every year.

Car prices in the UK are higher than in other parts of Europe. At one time it was a very good idea to buy a UK specification car in Belgium and import it personally. The saving was about 20% on the best price a dealer could offer in the UK. But no more. The taxman blocked that loophole, and car prices are STILL higher in the UK than in Belgium.

Shhhhhhhhh— don't let anybody know.

Tesla has quietly removed all references to its 10-kilowatt-hour residential battery from the Powerwall website, as well as the company’s press kit. The company's smaller battery designed for daily cycling is all that remains.

A special treat...

After a bit of reflection, I decided this needed a thread of its own as a Holiday Missive for all. Feel free to drop in and send your own Spring Wishes. (I've started it now since I'll be computerless until Sunday night).

I fear she has too much ink for my tastes.

Remember that humour we all had about the names of roads etc., a while ago ?

Well, Cock Lane (No 69 was for sale a while ago), is growing in fame; again.
It seems that the little Lane in Surrey suffers lots of pot-holes and a Crusader has arisen, to highlight the problem, but painting a cock on the road at the appropriate point:
See HERE.
