I hear the "largest communications company in the world" will hire anyone. And I mean ANYONE.

Facebook is letting accounts be hacked. They probably need a new tech, or two.

And then again, no real software companies?

Intel makes chips and sells them to people who put computers together, any software they have is purchased from a software company.

Facebook...well it's Facebook.

As for the other's they seem to have a single specialty piece of software that they might maintain in house, but I'll bet they are saturated with applications.

Look for some big named software development companies...

Oracle - they're not just a database company...I worked for them for 6 years developing business applications.

There are other big names out there. If you want to write software you don't work for a manufacture of parts to a computer or a proprietary owner of a single piece of software that will in all likelihood never change.

And like Hard_Rom said... Why no game companies...like EA or DiceLA or whoever programs the COD crap?

Use of the title "Engineer"

"Edsger W. Dijkstra claimed that the terms software engineering and software engineer have been misused and should be considered harmful, particularly in the United States."

It depends what you do in software engineering.
