Lit Reader's Choice Awards

As I recall there was no site carry through on this for the last couple of years.

They haven't done this is a few years and if I'm not mistaken they never announced the winners from the last time(2012?)

These things are a joke. If people think the themed contests are based on high fiving and block voting and cheer leading, they are nothing compared to these.

In 2011 one author won almost every category and with just enough votes in each one. It was so ridiculous the following year several people-including myself- who had been nominated in 2011 and again in 2012 posted we wanted to be removed from consideration. because that same author was again nominated for everything so why bother?

And that is not a reflection on that author, but their rabid fan base and almost everyone who voted had one post, that one, their only appearance ever on the boards was to put that vote, so talk about potential alt city.

And on that note in the rules it says that if someone votes under multiple ID's that the extra id's only count for half a vote, but still count:rolleyes:

I am going to pop some popcorn though to see if the great voices nominate one of their own and pile on.

I removed my name from one of them too. Either Freddie or Scouries nominated me as a joke. I don't remember which.

The site has launched this before and then not carried through with it. Might keep that in mind in considering whether to invest your energy in it.

If someone felt like being a smart ass and nominating me for anything or even a legit one, I'd leave it be only because I know its not going anywhere anyway.

Know what would be interesting? Of course there would still be issues, but instead of readers choice awards how about author's choice awards? Only people who can nominate have to have stories here?

Still potential for the sock puppet and pssst vote for me, but its a far smaller number of authors than readers.

Well...

All contests seem a little off. I mean, votes rates come and go, views come and go. They are even able to take away the number of votes or the actual rating. *shrugs*

There's no way to tell why votes are removed or what votes are removed, just that they are. And so people cheat the system and the system cheats people. So in the end it balances out. Or so we hope. I dunno...I can't see behind the curtain.

What mean you?

I mean that this "annual" contest has been announced like this before, and then nada. No carry through; no answer why not when asked. So, it's pretty much a gamble to put any energy into it this year.

Perhaps I've just missed something. Maybe the site can post the winners of the "annual" contest for last year--and/or the year before that, and/or the year before that(?)

He means that the 2012 awards which were run in early 2013-I think- the site never followed up on who won anything, nothing was ever posted, it just faded away.

And they haven't run this at all the last 2-3 years.

So he's pretty much saying this could be much ado about nothing in the end.

But we'll see, they got back to running the monthly contests last year.

Well screw this. I want a party with fancy designer dresses and lots of drinking. ;) Maybe someone should write a story about that!

A nice little gathering of transvestites with boxes of Australian chardonnay?

I see some are already in their contest form of creating excuses why they didn't win again. Some things just never change. Wonders be if they spent as much time on improving their writing as they do running their mouths on the forum they'd be well recognized for their work. But I guess that is the issue for the naturally talented, too damned lazy to improve.

And some are in their, i don't have a clue what's going on mode, as usual, but I'm going to run my mouth anyway.

ETA: And I still participated.

Yep. It's fun and tempting and stupid and so many other things.

I never had the opportunity to do this this. Some of my favourites are not eligible since they haven't submitted anything last year, and there's just too many to ignore. I'll have to think a bit hard on this one.

Aww it's okay Tx, run your mouth to your hearts content :) It's only pixels after all

Wonders be, snark without a name mention. But I have found that typical with certain sorts, quick to be vague, slow to own up.

Sorry if it upset you that I continue to call it before it happens and always be right.

Then again, maybe you're not referring to me, let's see, one, two, three, four, 4.5(on a shared story) W's. "Didn't win' doesn't seem to apply.

Good thing I'm too lazy to improve, it would be outright embarrassing for the literary types here.

On one hand it has great intentions.

On the other hand it is an open invitation to alt and ballot stuff.

The 2012 results were never given and I had figured that was due to how many people turned down nominations because of how 2011 turned out.

Guess it turned out to be the same for the monthly contests, it was just buried and suddenly brought back.

I should add to my previous post that the person who was the beneficiary of all the 2011 ballot stuffing was gracious enough to remove herself from 2012 citing it wasn't fair the previous year and they didn't want that to happen again.

Some have class and would rather not win unfairly some not so much.

The author asked not to participate, but at no time was any reason given.

It's obvious how much this website gives a fuck, given the complete lack of monitoring. It's just a fucking title with no value.

But I'm still gonna vote anyway. :D
