The only thing different about the New Year's Eve attack in Koln/Cologne was the scale of it.

Many cities across Europe, including the UK, have gangs of pickpockets using sexual assault as a distraction tactic. They are not usually after sex, just the woman's mobile phone and credit/debit cards.

London's Oxford Street has too many pickpockets working in teams despite the Police's attempts to discourage them.

In the UK a disproportionate number of those arrested are Romanians, who are legally allowed to travel to the UK. If arrested too often in London, they tend to migrate to other cities in the UK or elsewhere in Europe.

New Year's Eve, when many people are on the street having taken too much alcohol, is a prime time for pickpockets.

But some men will take advantage of drunk women. Those men are assholes, not necessarily immigrant assholes, but there are immigrant assholes too.

The stink of it was that the police and apparently the media seem to collude to downplay the scale of the problem. So far about 100 women have filed criminal complaints of harrassment and ... 7 people arrested?!
