Yeah, its 29F here now and very sunny as I'm preparing to head out to the park for a long walk. Given the parks part of a wetlands area and adjacent to the river its chilly. But the plus side is the cold limits perspiration and overheating and its easier to breath properly while under exertion.
I had a doctors appointment yesterday and they were amazed by the difference a 6 to 8 mile per day walk does. A couple of the serious runners didn't believe me until they'd quizzed me a bit. I suspect some of them were annoyed to find out how effective walking is when compared to fitness jogging or running.

Running is an orthopedic nightmare, if you wish fitness as a goal a brisk, variable grade walk is just as good and much better on the wheels.
Good for you!!

Thanks, once I read up on Interval walking and how varying things up a bit improves the process I was sold on it. I've gotten some odd looks while walking up steep hills or walking backwards for a few legs of a walk but I'm stronger for doing it. I knew health care professionals can get a bit rigid in how they understand the entire fitness thing but what should have been a brief office visit turned into a "how to do fitness walking" discussion. I did get one good recommendation I hadn't considered, I'll buy some compression socks to try out while walking.

I've had issues with the walking thing once I screwed up the shoulders. Funny both new Achilles tendons are actually pretty good and much better then my originals. But moving the torn shoulder bites hard. They won't allow me anything over my head so swimming is out. The best work out I can get is running in water above my collar bones. Which was awesome.... I could handle an hour of that easy until I fell and torn up the left shoulder.

The cold weather has me petty freaked out right now cause the pain level is bad even with my meds & both shoulders taped. So I will have to work in an ortho visit & MRI this month. I just can't tell if it's the rotator cuff or another tendon that's messed up. I just cant' move it even driving underhanded with out paying for it enough to lay in bed & not move it for a couple hours.

Move down closer to me girl. I'll keep you warm.

:D

Man you are only 2 hours away but it's always hotter inland.
I keep reminding myself the strawberries & oranges need the cold snap
but Dud I am about snapped out.
1 more day they say!

Ok someone needs to push the cold back up to Canada!

I'm actually on the Atlantic Coast. Nice sea breeze to keep us cool during the summer. Regardless, I hate this friggin' area during September. Too friggin' hot for too friggin' long.

But I probably shouldn't be complaining about that right now. :D

I'm about 15 min from the Skyway. but even with the breeze it's harsh.
With no AC here the summer is hard since it's over 100 degrees inside around 10 am.

I moved to Florida in 77 and the majority of houses over here still didn't have AC. It's brutal without it .

Good evening everyone!

Welcome to the thread Wiser. Hope you enjoy hanging your hat here. :)

Thank you CA. I'm generally here during working hours (when I'm looking to not work).

I did live in St. Louis many years ago - hope you were safe during the floods

Happy birthday starry! Hi everyone. Time for me to temporarily kick off my shoes!

Hey there shmily, happy all that driving is behind you?

oh yes!!! getting back in the groove of working. Got a few new guys in this week, so that adds a bit to the daily work load. If the project ever kicks off properly we will be really busy, but for now lots of down time. Thinking of loading some reading material onto my tablet. Or as a friend suggest - start writing again. :rose:

How has your day been?

Boring, but I just got a call from my Mom, like two minutes ago. My sister just got out of a five hour brain surgery, and everything went great!

So I'm a happy camper, woohoo!!!!
