Military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941. The next day the United States declared war on Japan.

We're running out of PH Day survivors. I read a story a couple of days ago about a 14-year-old kid who was there during the attack (his Dad was a Marine), and he's clearly on his last legs judging by the picture of him.

I know of one in the neighborhood.

He was an officer at the time and is now in his 90s, in poor health, and generally pissed off at everything. His viewpoints unsuitable for polite company. Nevertheless, a great great grandfather who remembers everything he ever knew.

Knock knock...

"Who the fuck is that?!?!?!? Go away."

a commemorative haiku:

cool pacific breeze
caressing the early morn
a nip in the air

*drops mike*

'thank you verra much'

The first time in American history that a single attack kicked off two different wars.

The second was 9/11/01.

Actually, you could make a pretty good argument for three: the immediate war in Afghanistan, the subsequent war in Iraq and the ongoing war against Islamic terrorism generally.
