Council on American-Islamic Relations is holding a press conference now condemning the actions of the shooters.

I am sincerely glad CAIR did this. They needed to do it. Less so because any non-Muslim American might have demanded it, but far more so because potential fundamentalist Jihadi recruits need to hear their ideology repudiated from within the faith.

Another recent positive development is the publication of The Study Quran. If I am not mistaken, this is the only version of the Quran with scholarly commentary published within and adjacent to relevant scriptures. The editorial board responsible for that commentary was made up of a great many reputable clerics from various Islamic sects throughout the world. Again, a pretty tough crowd for a fundamentalist to win a theological debate against.

Ivan A. Lopez-Lopez (October 23, 1979 – April 2, 2014) was an Iraq War veteran who was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Lopez was allegedly distraught over financial issues and the deaths of his grandfather and then his mother during a two-month period five months prior to the shooting. He was also undergoing regular psychiatric treatment for depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. He tried to take a leave of absence in order to attend his mother's funeral in Puerto Rico. It took five days for the leave to be approved, but he was only allowed to be absent for 24 hours, which allegedly upset him. The leave was eventually extended to two days. More recently, Lopez had asked for a transfer, claiming that he was "being taunted and picked on" by other soldiers in his unit.

You know what's strange about the Colorado Springs killer? The only info I've read so far that implicates him as holding any political pro-life leanings is those infamous "baby parts" words from an anonymous source who also included that the killer's entire spiel to police was a bunch of confused babble. Other than that, there hasn't appeared any link to further the "pro-life" political involvement.
