10 ga is often the go-to gun for geese. Lots use 12's but they can be somewhat unreliable with geese especially if using the wrong load.
I've found many stick to the 10 and are happy with it but switch to the 12 for duck because ducks are little bitches.

10 gauge handle the recoil better and fires the BB and BBB shot needed to bag one. Considering that a deer can be done with a .410 (slug mind you). Heavy fowl loads and shotguns need tells a lot about the toughness of a goose.

But try stand before one coming at your head unarmed, equal fight. Takes an awful tough nut to not to cringe and duck.
