Aussies! Check in here!

Morning :)

Melbourne Cup day.....are we all having a flutter?
The Melb weather has shifted south for the day - Melb will be sunny, while Launy shivers in drizzle. So does this mean the track is classed as dry? Because it was wet yesterday.....
Ah, the vagaries of chance, dipped in the ever-present speculation of dry/wet/fast/slow!

Are you still talking about horse racing..? ;):D

Horse racing is not my thing in the slightest, so I am doing absolutely nothing to mark the day :D

Definitely not sexy.

Looks like they might stay dry today, but possible I'll get soaked come my turn to go! Have we all decided to make the trek to the TAB (do they even exist anymore what with only betting?)

Yep well hold on to your rain keepings off device cause its set for a wet one for Oaks Day. Not much hiding room out there as you know.

Yes the TAB still exists. Used to bet on the Cup every year and won most years, haven't done that for a long time. The TAB down the road even has a bar, not all have that.

Nope didn't have a flutter but did watch the race like I do every year. It was nice weather for a change. Usually either warm or raining.

Glad to see a woman won and she gave the guys a few things to think about with the comments, good on her. Even gave some of the owners a serve. And it was men who backed her up which is good to see. Sad not to see Bart at the races but his legacy lives on.

Of course some people on social media did the usual anti-racing thing. Even one comment stated the race won't be relevant in 10yrs. These people really need to lighten up or get a root.

Afternoon all,

Well as we all know the Melbourne Cup has been run and won for another year. Nobody predicted the winner which is the charm of that race. Used to go to school just up from the racecourse and would sneak into the racecourse from the school's back gate. The school is now the a venue for the VRC just near the showgrounds.

Well Spring is doing its thing in Melbourne, which means very unpredictable weather and temps all over the place. And for those out of state, Melbourne doesn't get more rain than other places on the east coast. In fact Sydney gets more annual rainfall than Melbourne.

And we are one month closer to Christmas. Saw Christmas stuff out in the shops last week. They couldn't even wait for Nov. Cricket starts tomorrow so more couch time booked. Must remember to buy some beer.

Hope the rest of your week goes smoothly. For those in Melbourne going to the races tomorrow, don't post any pics.

peeks in to say Hi. :rose:
I miss the old group here on the Aussie Lit thread
but am blessed to know them outside of Lit over in FB land.

Waving back from Melbourne town :rose:

Would offer a Tim Tam but sent them to a friend in Canada. She doesn't share any, not even with her sister.

My fb page was covered in anti-racing stuff yesterday.
I took the time to point out to all the folks posting horrid images of horses being slaughtered that the meat was used in commercial dog and cat food.
They were shocked and horrified to find out they'd been feeding their beloved pets on dead horses!

Hey WQ

Well its good that you educated people ( obviously the younger folk) on what does happen to horses when they are no longer wanted. Then there is the old scenario of sending them off to the glue factory. And in some European countries horse meat is considered as a delicacy. Seeing Cavallo on the menu means horse and the skins are used in all sorts of leather products.

Afternoon all,

Had issues getting on Lit a couple of days ago, maybe the storms around Melbourne town had something to do with it.

For those who went to the Oaks and got wet, well its not like you didn't know. If it's any consolation I got soaked running to the car in the supermarket carpark, then of course had to go back with the umbrella to the shopping trolley and get wet again. If I wasn't waiting at the checkout because someone's bloody card didn't work, I would of missed the storm. Then again I could of chosen to use the underground car park.

Watching the cricket at the moment and the Aussies are dominating the kiwis. Aussies back in for second innings and should win the first test within the scheduled timeframe. If it goes to Monday then a clash with the NFL, tough decision.

I see the selection of poppies for Remembrance Day now includes a luggage tag, don't remember seeing that before. Hope your weekend is going well.

Some of us are just destined to get wet DarkElf :D

Today was disaster date/meetup no. 4.
I am doomed to spend the rest of my life alone, without sex or company, to eventually die and be eaten by cats.

Nope. The fact that you are out there on date number four pretty much indicates that you are on the way to a life of fulfillment, sex and happiness. Like anything, getting back in the game takes practice.

You're smart enough to learn from what didn't go right, start to be able to discern what is really going on I guys profiles, and start to get good at this. Also, my hot tip is not to be afraid to choose outside your normal comfort zone. If your first choices didn't get you what you wanted, make different ones.

Good luck, and I look forward to hearing how it goes.

Here's how it goes.....
I had an eye exam today, and the guy from yesterday texted me just before I went in, saying "don't let anyone mess up those beautiful blue eyes'"

My eyes are green/hazel.

Peace? What's that?
Between son and unsuitable gf, daughter and 2 grandkids, a few disastrous dates, and xmas round the corner...
I need to get laid :p

I'm sorry, where was I.....?

You were about to embark on some much needed quiet time. Bourbon to kick start your relaxation, music to feed your soul and let your mind wander, steak to boost your iron and energy reserves, and a foot soak to do something nice for yourself...sounds like a good plan and one which might help your prospects in the near future to take care of that last item on your list:p

Have a great night in. It's well deserved, I'm sure.

Were my future prospects reliant on smooshy feet, and not on the [limited] gene pool of my location, I would have been sexed up and happy!
Sadly, that is not the case :(

I hope your tongue is planted in your cheek or did you wish to perpetuate what we mainlanders think about the gene pool of Tassie?:D

Good luck, in any case.:rose:

Lol - the gene pool of Tassie is definitely limited!
Add to that a bunch of guys who think women don't have brains....
Sad. That's what it is, sad.

Superubermega pissed off at the lousy coverage of V8's all year on free to air tv.
So much so, I am writing to the station that has the rights, as well as to V8 supercars and every team
