Mine worked a bit differently than that, sadly. I distinctly remember sitting on a bench in the smoking area after the 2nd day of class my senior year and wondered deeply how in the fuck I was going to get through that year and stay sane.


I did get through the year.

When I was driving full-time, I got used to my oddball schedule. I also got used to pulling over at rest stops and catching an hour or so of sleep.


Nowadays, I'm used to 11+ hour days.


My HVAC certification home study course finally arrived, so I'll spend the weekend cramming for that. I can hardly wait . . . .

Jesus, it is unbelievable how many employees under me who have 48 hours off, seem to spend all of them awake and then want to sleep-walk through their jobs.

I have been known to show up for work still drunk from two hours beforehand. I know, that Wat is a bad bad boy. But that was long ago, and in a land far far away.


Our new guy, who's actually quite good, is renting a unit in our nicer complex. He's getting out of a roomie situation where the roomie/housemate as apparently dealing drugs. So he and his wife are splitting, which makes sense. Last week, this guy is "fuck you" and a "motherfucker."


Then, on Sunday, they found the guy dead of an apparent self-inflicted GSW to his head. Now, we've been hearing hoe emotionally stressful this all is. Frankly, my Dears, I could not possibly give less of a damn. Maybe it's sincere, and maybe it's drama. At least he still shuts up and does his job.


And the new boss may well not even last out his 90-day probation. He missed one delivery last week, or was going to until the big boss pulled in everyone to git-er-done. This week, he's missed two paint jobs and two cleanings, and his attitude to me when I mentioned calling to schedule this shit ASAP was, "I'll get to it." I'm pretty sure he's not seeing where he's going to get to.


Fuck!!! It's raining. I'm off to hit the rack . . . .

The little boss's leaving if and when it happens will be his getting shoved out. It's sad, really. I thought he'd step up to the plate and take his cuts, blooping a few and then getting some solid hits sometimes. Missing deliveries and having to pull stuff out of yer ass ain't how it's done. I built way too many houses for way to long not to see that.


Poor bastard - he'll take this to heart, too.
