I think it's a question of social convention.

In Western culture, covering one's face is anti-social, except in certain sanctioned situations as previously mentioned.

I think it's really that simple.

Social conventions are not an excuse to discriminate against people nor are they a legit reason why your practices are better. If it was then that all by itself would be a good and most likely permanent reason why gay marriage should be illegal and frowned upon. From the stats I've read even if every single homosexual married that would still leave the upwards of 90% of Americans without gay marriage. That cannot be your defining argument. Well it can but you just have to wear the bigot hat and be proud of it. I'm sure ther eare times when I don it.

I don't really care much about the nigab, personally it bothers me no more than the rest of the get up and and the rest of the get up is off putting sure but not scary. As long as they take it off for all times when the legal identificaiton is important then I'm fine.

Right or wrong public nudity is illegal to varying degrees in most of the US. As is cannibals. I can't imagine the purpose of sodomizing a live rodent but that would still fall under animal cruelty. How well the German economy is doing is largely a matter of perspective. They are however a top 10 economy literally no matter how you slice it. These 1.5 million people are refugees escaping a war torn region. The majority of the other hundreds of millions simply are not.

However, if I moved to Iran tomorrow and greeted a female with a European style mini-hug/air kiss (for example)...I'd be jailed for defying their social convention.

But… most of those 1.5 million reffugees are young men; and the women and children are still stuck in the war zone.

A similar situation happened over the last decades, in NZ. First immigrants where mostly dutch and asians, and were welcomed with open arms by the population.
But as the economy started to fall and some of their own started to struggle, the same people started to be less open towards the next waves of immigrants. (not my take on things; that's what I've been told by some NZers).
