When I Was a Kid....

Ahhh, but do you remember the word you had to spell that made you the champ? ;)

WIWAK we watched the Wizard of Oz once a year and didn't find out until I was a teenager that it changed to color!!!

"Onomatopoeia" when I was 7 for my first bee ever.
"Soliloquy" when I was 11 for the region.
"Pulchritudinous" for smaller competitions in between the years.
"Analgesia" was for my last competition at 13. I didn't advance for the region but beat the school.

:cattail:

WIWAK I had to wear a laid skirt and blue/white oxfords to school everyday....to this day I've never owned a plaid anything

WIWAK.... I WAS the remote for the TV. I had to get up to change channels or turn up, down, on or off!

WIWAK parents weren't afraid of doing what they needed to do to be parents.

WIWAK- no cell phones or "play dates." Mom figured we would come home when we got hungry. Or needed stitches. For the four of us kids, and our friends, you never knew which would come first. (farm kids)

Question for all- Did you ever sneak away Dad's axe and carve out a hideout in a stand of cedar trees? Careful and selective limb cutting allowed a curved path your bike could be ridden thru. But couldn't be seen as a path from the gravel road.

We built a fort in the bush made out of logs of the downed trees. When we ran out of them, we started to cut trees down....not sure if that was a good idea or not. I would have to say one of us ran the axe, since it was just sitting in the drive shed, out for anyone to use. ;) I do know no one got hurt..:)

The fort eventually got abandoned due to the walls being over our heads and we couldn't quite figure out how to make the roof...:D

WIWAK my parents left loaded guns (pistols and rifles) all over the house (no safes) and no one ever got hurt or killed. I was taught how to use them and I had respect for them, so I never touched them. Also the fear of what would happen if I did touch them and got caught was a good deterrent as well.

WIWAK parents weren't afraid to put the fear of God into their children...

WiWAK I got so suntanned in the summer that at dusk you could barely see me! We didn't use sunblock or sunscreen, because we never heard about skin cancer.

Ignorance is bliss, eh?
