They have big ovens behind the counter, but I can't say I've ever seen them actually cooking anything.

In other news, I bought three different species of fish, and was rather disgruntled to see that they were all from China. I do my best to live China-free, but I do like my fish.

You have the largest oceans on the planet on either side of you, the Caribbean within easy reach, and countless rivers. Why do you need to import fish from China?

I have no idea, and it's in fact a huge issue today in the context of current trade negotiations (Obama got spanked on trade deals today in Congress). The WTO said we can't require "country of origin" labeling on our food - which is a big deal to nutty people like me. The news is full of how terrible Chinese seafood is - grown in sewers and pumped full of antibiotics. But what are you going to do? It's all that the store sells.

I live 40 miles from the Chesapeake Bay and all our crabs and oysters come from Louisiana - we've polluted and over-fished. I suspect that's true for all our seafood.

The 72-point font said, "Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon."
The 8-point font said, "Product of China."

also, women of the world should happily note that the soccer gods don't give a shit about the male gaze.

Yet another example of how consumer choice is nothing of the kind. That's appalling.

I have never seen what is wrong, in principle, with autarky. Self-sufficiency where you can, import where you have to. Global trade can still happen, but the 'coals to Newcastle' phenomenon disappears.

I'm just a simple man, and such things are beyond my keen. I do my best to purchase locally - especially food. But it's not easy.

In addition to all the seafood being from China, all the produce is from Central America. Not so much in the summer, with all the local farmer's markets, but we get almost nothing from Florida or California.

Homemade lasagna, garlic bread, and mostly garden fresh veggies for the salad; I have to say I made a great supper tonight! And I swear the first available girl that's impressed with that I'm gonna marry.

Another interesting thing about our food industry is the Nutrition Labels. The government established daily recommendations for all sorts of things like fat, calories, etc., and everything you buy has a label identifying the amounts of those recommendations contained in the product.

Sugar(s) is/are listed but there is no recommend daily limit because the sugar lobby is so powerful here and prevented the government from establishing recommended limits.

Politics trumps health every time.

That's what happens when Republicans negotiate trade deals.
And when the consumer only wants what is sold for the lowest price.

Sad, but true.

meagan rapinoe looks a lot like my brother in law. it's the eyes, really. also, the hair and general face shape to a lesser extant. not saying she's masculine. seriously, though. she totally looks like she could be his sister.

and that's enough posts by me for the moment. at least in a row.

you boring fucks.

I'm having a Pandora Paul Simon kind of night. I might watch The Big Chill in a little while.

there's soccer on, yo. just listen to this while watching girls get sweaty while kicking balls instead.

Elton John music. Having random memory of driving home from Athens with an AD from this local TV production fondling my boob from the back seat, after partying with ****** ******'s son. I had a greatest hits tape on repeat, and it was sort of soothing. I never hung out with either of them again. Too many drugs.
