What an ass.

He earned about $39,000 from his revenge porn website, yet he loses at least the next decade of freedom (because $39k won't buy good enough lawyers for a solid appeal).

How about you? How much would 18 years in prison be worth to you? Poll (pole) to follow.

Sub-plot, do you think he deserved more or less jail time?

Get me a Million and I'll do 18 years. Most likely I'll only do ten of that 18, so yeah a Mil will do.

Never enough for me to play that jailhouse give up the booty bullshit

Too bad they didnt go after the ones who posted the pics as well.

By the way, the dude is whining that the press about him is infringing on his private information and wants it to stop.

I had to read it to see what the legal theory was here. It was the extortion, not the posting that sent him to jail, I would think. It didn't say, but I would think some of the ex's should be prosecuted as co-conspirators, depending on what they knew of the scam.

I assume the 18 years had something to do with the number of counts. He messed with a lot of lives, so probably appropriate.

It would have been more obvious the crime, if it was lower volume, higher profile, higher dollar extortion.

If it was one count, 18 years seems excessive considering we let murders out quicker than that.

Just the risk of 18 years would mean my minimum would be somewhere north of the 10 million dollar range, held offshore. For that kind of money, I would committing my crimes from a country without an extradition treaty in any case, so I might be happy with a couple of million.

He'll be out in 6-9 with good behavior. Which IMO runs about right..mostly for the extortion. That's where shit got leveled up imo.

Had it just been a pure and simple wall of shame site to go QQ about some dick eatin' weasels or man hoez I'd might have said it a bit much. But to toss extortion on top of it? Nawwww man....that was 1) stupid 2) wrong so fuck em'.

Good news for you is that there is one less San Diegan washing his ride and hosing off his driveway.

When I was 18 and interest rates were 10%, a million might have been enough. Would be 36 coming out (if did full time). At 53 and interest rates at like 1 %, freedom is priceless.

Where do I get to spend the time. Minimum security prison in Canada or state prison in ... (insert name of nasty US prison)?

If I could serve time in Mexico. 5k in greenbacks could get me a day pass and a ride to Belize.

This is true, inmates use considerably less water than the average daygo.

Bullshit. Your fiver would get you a back room at a bordello tied to a chair while your parents figure out how to wire a hundred grand US in lieu of receiving your nutsack in the mail.

Will they be next? Copyright violation, if they were selfies or shot by someone else. Or perhaps cyber stalking or something in the same category?

Agreed on the extortion angle.
So you think it is completely fine for a man to shame a woman by posting private, nude pictures of her on some random website? Even pics of your mother, daughter, wife, sister, girlfriend, aunt? You would be cool with that because they are dick eatin' weasels?

I'm glad they found an angle to prosecute. Unfortunately the DA couldn't just file charges for "being a douchnozzle," so this is good.

For me, there probably isn't enough money to go to prison.

charge: douchnozzle

I would absolutely support a charge of douchenozzle in this particular case. It should have come with a $39,000 fine.

He's gonna get the nozzle in the hoosgow.

Damn skippy, he's a pretty boy. Doomed! But maybe he can buy prison protection for $39k. He could probably get protection from one of the third-tier gaggles to protect him with that kind of dough.

There is another revenge porn guy named Hunter Moore who is facing a staggering 50+ years in federal prison for hacking into several email accounts to acquire nude photographs of specific individuals.

A 50-year prison sentence is much longer than what is typically handed down for rape in most states, and sounds unusually excessive for looking into emails for photographs. Which is why I say that 8 years max would be much more fitting.

But hey, the criminal justice system here in America really is that fucked up. Small time email and facebook hackers are jailed for longer than some murderers, rapists, drug dealers, pedophiles, and violent gang members.

Christopher Chaney, or the person who hacked into actress Scarlett Johannson's email and found nude photographs was threatened with a death-defying 121 years in prison and was forced to enter a plea deal and was sentenced to 10 years. Furthermore, if and when the person(s) responsible for the apple icloud "fappening" celebrity hacked photo leaks of 8/31/14 are ever apprehended, it's like that he/she/they will be facing over 1,000 years in federal prison, or probably one of the longest prison sentences ever handed down to anyone in the entire history of the US criminal justice system.

The problem with these GHOULISH sentences for computer crime is the horribly draconian and overly-punitive Computer Fraud and Abuse act, which was an anti hacking law passed in the 1980's when the internet first came into existence, and was originally intended to protect government, military, and commercial computer systems against malicious intrusion. But now the CFAA is being used and applied to relatively minor computer mischief, like logging into someone else's facebook or email by simply guessing their password, both of which could have you facing literally decades in prison.

Sometimes these hideously harsh punishments for computer hackers are appropriately justified, such as when it involves hundreds of thousands/millions of dollars in financial losses or damages, or the leak of highly sensitive government documents/national security information, for example. But unfortunately, most prosecutions under the CFAA are for relatively minor to moderate hacking mischief (like social media and email hacking) and can literally put someone behind bars for LIFE over tongue in cheek/prankster-level hacking.

As I said before, these laws were originally intended to protect government/military/financial computer systems for obvious and well-intended reasons, but the govt' deliberately abuses and misuses it for the selective prosecution of anyone they don't like, namely journalists and outspoken political critics.

No, it should be MORE so he has a minimum wages garnished upon release.

I can understand the extortion part, but how does posting photographs of someone that were willfully submitted by a third party, constitute identity theft?

And doesn't ID theft have to exceed more than $1,500 in losses/damages to be a felony?

"Your Honor. the state intended to charge the defendant with being a douchenozzle. However he has agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of being an asshat."

All seriousness aside, this revenge porn stuff is despicable.

Years ago I spent two years in jail.

No amount of money is worth eighteen years in jail.

Look at all these drug dealers raking it in, caught once? That money meant nothing.

As for him deserving it? I think yes because revenge porn is becoming a huge issue and I think examples need to be made.

Every time I see an amateur porn video my first thought is, does this girl know this is online? Even here I look at all the pic threads and think, "Does this woman know her pussy s all over the net?" Even the threads that say its the woman herself posting them, how do we know its not a d-bag ex or voyeuristic husband pretending?

Look at what that asshole KR cummings did, posting pics of his wife for years without her knowledge.

Granted I think at this point women, especially younger ones need to be very cautious with letting anyone take a picture or make a video with, but....just because they did it doesn't give their POS boyfriends the right to put it all over the internet.

Any guy caught doing this even if its just of one girl on one site should see some jail time. Its the best way to stop it.

Freedom costs a buck o five.

It had to be said.

The jail time is about right. He provided a vehicle to potentially destroy lives. Plus he tried to profit from others misery. The time he got disrupts his life about right. Should work as a nice deterrent with others of a like mind too.
