Ok, I just started on the birth control pill again after being off for years. Its been a little over a month. I have been having symptoms similar to pregnancy (trust me, I know I am not). There is nausea, change in appetite, extreme sensitivity to smells too. Is that typical? The pill I am on is Introvale.

In a sense, you are trying to convince your body that you're pregnant so that you don't produce eggs. Just like with pregnancy, symptoms usually become less noticeable within the first few months (trimester). So - you're right. things should subside :)
That being said, side effects that limit your ability to continue normal activities should be discussed with the prescribing care provider.

Goodness! If this is anything like being pregnant, not sure I would make it. LOL. My hat is off to women who have. I will talk to my medical doctor once the holiday is over. Thanks for the help.

You can get some side effects, such as breast sensitivity due to the hormones. Nausea would be another. It should go away within a few weeks, but yours sounds quite pronounced. Mild nausea I could hack, but prolonged nausea, no way. As with any other meds, sometimes you need to try a different one to find the right fit.

As a general rule, birth control pills shouldn't give you much in the way of side-effects, if they do, try a different brand. Even though birth control pills have a basic recipe of estrogen and progesterone, different brands have different "recipes", or strengths of these and it's enough to make a difference in your tolerance from brand to brand.

Yep......

I also vote to talk to your doc/NP right away. Any symptoms that continue longer than a week or two warrants a change in meds. There are so many to choose from.

I was on one once that turned me into a raging bitch. I just stopped taking it after 10 days and demanded something else, which ended up working just fine.

Good luck and feel better!

About a year ago I was on BC that made me so horribly nauseated that it far surpassed any nausea I had when I was actually pregnant! Then a few months ago I tried nuvaring which made me feel like a raging, murderous bitch.

I usually give any new BC a full cycle to see how well it reacts with my system, but if symptoms are interfering with day to day life, I'm done.

There are so many dosages and combinations that it can take a few tries to find the right one, especially if you seem to be sensitive to the hormones they contain.

I actually did but assumed these symptoms would eventually go away as my body adjusted to the drug.

That's a reasonable assumption. If you 'just started' on them, give it a few months' time. And use backup birth control, too!
